Class 66 photos

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I must admit 66s have grown on me over the years and I have come to quite like them. A bit more variety would be nice, but at least they are "proper" locos.

Anyway, here are a few shots from me.

First up, a few taken during the Kingmoor Open Day 2011...

A magically levitating 66 426...

DRS 66413...

66427 up close and personal...

A couple of debranded 66s, recently acquired by DRS at the time...

And in 2010, Fastline 66434, again at Kingmoor...

Cheers

Some nice photo's, the 66's look very good in the DRS Blue. 66411 and 66412 have always been part of the DRS fleet, you are correct in saying they have been debranded, they were the Stobart and Malcolm liveried specials..

Ironically they are both part of the Freightliner fleet now.

And 66434 has been rebranded into the latest Malcolm livery:-

they are a damn sight easier to get through than a 47 or 56!

Still have to be wary of all the sharp bits sticking out that are designed to catch you out! That damned infernal bolt at knee height in the engine room that holds an earth strap to the bodyside is the usual culprit... ask me how I know...!

I had '514 on a job last week and it's definitely showing it's age, about fourteen or fifteen years by now I should think. Most of the mainline Diesel Hydraulics didn't last that long!

One of my earliest digital shots of a Freightliner Class 66 with 66514 approaching Towyn with a ballsst working from Penmaenmawr on 1st August 2001...

Freightliner reduced the variety when it took over ballast workings. This is 66607 climbing towards Llandulas with empties for Penmaenmawr on 5th August 2004......

Double heading provided something different I suppose. 66510 heads this duo through Abergele on 6th August 2004....

66502 was a bit different.....The low sun just about catches the loco as it passes Rhyl Marine Lake with an Up ballast working on a murky 7th December 2005....

66130 in the tradition setting beside the box at Abergele on 1st October 2002.....

Sunny weather again, and 66002 gets away from Llandudno Junction with a train of Hanson wagons on 14th May 2005....

That 66019 is a disgrace. Shades of the bad old days of the 1960s again....

It doesn't take long on the RHTT circuit to get like that, i think thats about 2 weeks worth of muck, the problem with the circuit it was on is the 66s need tripcocks fitted to work between harrow on the hill and amersham so the pool is very limited (66001, 66019 and i think 66017) so they stayed on it for the whole season (which is just about to restart)
