Class 20 "chopper" new and old photos...

I was looking through some old stuff and came across this photo which brought back memories. Back in the late 1980s we had a family holiday in Coalbrookdale, self-catering in a 'cottage' which was actually a terraced house adjacent to the Ironbridge branch. My parents wisely selected the back bedroom so I had the front one. I'm sure we visited lots of old factories, bridges, rivers, and the other local attractions on that holiday, but the only memory I retain is being woken up every morning at 0715 by a pair of choppers immediately outside my bedroom window! It's a steep gradient here, up from the bridge over the Severn, and they were flat-out and ear-shatteringly loud. One night I put my camera ready by the bed, and had time to fling open the window and grab this shot as they came past, lit by the dawn sun (from the wrong side):

I also have a similar photo of a 58 in very shiny new trainload coal livery. I recall that was a surprise and most of the trains were hauled by pairs of 20s.

Sorry for the poor quality, I was probably only 12 or 13 years old and rather bleary-eyed!

At the time I took this photo I was still based in Cornwall so this was a monster cop for somebody who hadn't ever seen a Class 20 until the previous day (inside Crewe Works) - D8000 at Derby on 4th November 1969 (it was paired with D8063) - Kodak Instamatic photo:

Other Class 20s at Derby, this time on a very sunny Saturday 7th June 1975 - two views of 20195 + 20087 about to enjoy a trip to the seaside at Skegness:

And a trio (l-r 20180/20113/20040) awaiting their next moves - they may all be in standard blue but no two are the same with regard to logo and number positioning:
