Some marvellous pictures here, brings back lots of nice memories. I remember as a young train buff in the 80's being the butt of a lot of jokes for liking "duffs", at that time they seemed to be the loco that many train enthusiasts hated because of their ubiquity, now it is a nice change to see one of the survivors, generally in re-engined 57 form. Of all the BR diesels, I really think few of the designs have aged anything like as well, it is still a very clean and attractive design.

47.163  We have seen this one above in 1978, but this is 20.6.1977 when it was really shiny!  The location is Norwich Thorpe.  I have posted this elsewhere on one of my threads, but I believe these are worth repeating here.

It was practically destroyed just under 6 months later!

Some how it got rebuilt.

Here's a couple of quick edits from me. Both images date from the late 1980s. First is 47 572 running round at Cambridge on 6th May 1987. I sent a copy of the image to Mike Wild when Hornby magazine announced their limited edition model of this loco, but I don't believe it has ever been used.

Next is 47 622 departing from Salisbury in 1988. I have no notes to hand about the working.

I'll try to dig out more when I can find a few minutes of editing time.

As promised, here are another couple I've dug out of the pile, both dating from the spring of 1991.

First, 47 583 County of Hertfordshire passing Royal Oak;

and second is 47 452 Aycliffe at Ely. This shows one of the many variations that can occur, even with supposedly standard liveries, in that the 7 and 5 are sligtly larger than the rest.
