Seanem44
I am building my first true layout and oddly started on a bridge as the first project. The layout is N Gauge. I purchased a PECO single rail road bridge and painted it, applying a primer coat of grey, followed by diluted white to create mortar, repainting it grey and then finally picking out individual stones for further detail. The last step I have will be to add black weathering powder to simulate the soot accumulated from smoke of passing engines. How did I do? I added the unpainted opposite side as a reference. I will not need this as the bridge will serve as a scenic break.
trisonic
Personally I would choose paint and apply using the "dry brush" technique - building it up gradually - i.e. don't stick on one thick coating. Trust this helps. Best, Pete.
Seanem44
Hmmm. I thought I was dry brushing in what I did after I applied the mortar. Guess I am not understanding the concept.
Poor Old Bruce
Looks good to me. I've not got on well with dry brushing so far, I prefer to do the brick/stone colours first and the give the whole lot a wash of mortar paint and rub most of it off. Each to their own. Edit to note that I overlapped with previous post.
