rob D2
Hi, A new plank i've started......will feature a metals terminal, CE traffic and maybe wagonload. Rear siding is used for offloading CE junk, such as redundant sleepers, as well as occasional stabling of locos.Has a decaying tarmac apron and a new concrete section supposedly for wagon maintenance (as at northampton) front siding a large building for the metals traffic overview from scenic break TTFN

rob D2
OK, which numbnut measured the bridge clearance for the scenic break......ah, that'll be me then. a waste of time , wood, paper and cardboard !

Guest 40-something
sure, its not finished yet, as it needs pulling around - its humble hanging basket liner from homebase ....... Great stuff, hanging basket liner, I've used it myself on my layout... Needs a bit more work but the basics are there!

rob D2
It's good stuff isn't it ? I'm thinking of greening up the roots a tad, as the layout is nominally winter and it seems grasses keep the green at the bottom

ess1uk
Good start there Rob. Sure you will be able to salvage the scenic break some how. Maybe raise it and hide the bottom with a small grass bank or similar?
rob D2
I wish... I'm a bit OCD about bodging bits on.....need some new bass wood from my local model shop. Start over. I've been concentrating on the Tarmac apron at present. Anybody know if blue gas cylinders ever used for cutting gear or just red ? I've got some of the Bachmann tanks to paint
rob D2
so this is the traffic that the front siding will be all about.......metals. I have an assortment of OCAs,BDAs (hopefully more at xmas) and vans, as well as cargowaggons. these will either be tripped from bescot by whatever they have available or arrive on dedicated services from , 'the north' or wales. eventually there will be some covered unloading here. to faciliate the bescot fleet, i'm going to rely on the Hornby class 31, or in this case Bescot resident 31423, which is a lima body I got off ebay for attaching to a Hornby chassis. somehow this isn't going to be as easy as I hoped... this area was a cameo I thought out especially with the Bachmann snackvan in mind, itll be the end of a industrial estate road eventually, with junk and folk having unhealthy snacks. I have a suitable streetlamp, and have the scalescenes pavement as well as ratio walling. If I dont get round to any more work on it, have a very merry xmas all ! I've got some of the Bachmann tanks to paint In some of my old pictures from 1978 from St Rollox there appear to be red and black cylinders in use together, cheers
muddys-blues
Looking good Rob, a Golf MK1 and a snot Green Capri very 80's, planks and small layouts are great for getting the mojo working again Best regards Craig.
Fat Controller
In some of my old pictures from 1978 from St Rollox there appear to be red and black cylinders in use together, cheers Black cylinders were oxygen. Acetylene bottles were slightly shorter (and possibly broader) and were finished in a maroon colour. Flame red bottles were propane, also used for flame-cutting. Blue were butane, which I've only ever seen used as heater/cooker fuel. One of the less pleasant jobs I had with Manpower in Stoke was 'yardman' at the BOC depot next to Etruria station- it would have been about this time of year, and the bottles, already heavy, were made even more difficult to handle by frost and moisture. rob D2
Cars will need a bit of hacking around - my mate had a Capri as late as 96, but not in bogey colours. As the layout is set circa 1991 , I need a bright yellow mk1 fiesta as that was my ride then !
rob D2
Taking an age to get the inlaid tracks right, this still needs further smoothing out. rob D2
Got a class 56 coming to run some of the steel trains....that should cheer me up. No time for any work on the layout this week though as I am 4000 miles away from it !

rob D2
Right not much progress on the layout - I was away from 27 dec until 2nd so not really had a chance.Managed to buy bass wood and foam board today for the scenic exit and embankment, so at least I have the stock for when I get the time. Here you go David : This machine turned up whilst I was away....I thought a metals sector 56 would be a good investment and i was keen to see what the super detail Hornby 56 was like. It wasnt without issue though......a simple chip insertion took forever.. firstly i noticed a buffer had popped out the shank so that will need fixing. Lenz decoder wouldnt operate the lights correctly, tried and blew the first Bachmann chip when it flopped over the side and touched the live rail.....finally got it running like a bag of spanners. This was due to the rubber band that operates the cooling fan being twisted and coming off the drive, so this was removed entirely its an unnecessary gimmick I think. Then had a sandbox pipe fouling the track...phew. overall impressions - i really like the loco but some of the superfine detail is too superfine to me. And in silly spots like just above the battery boxes where you grasp the machine. tried it out on a few vans Then junior came in for a running session.......shes really getting into driving daddy's trains. I'm going to have to spray the track with sleeper grime when the weather gets better, and hopefully on monday I can get on with some real scenic stuff again. d winpenny
Looking great nothing like a 56 shame about the chip issue but at least you got it sorted because these are very nice models David
CourthsVeil
Good progress there, Rob. Would be interested in the dimensions of the baseboard and whether you are planning to extend it? Regards Armin
