B15nac
Hello I've just built a comet 43xx chassis an fitted a high level road runner gearbox. It runs nicely but a tad ruff an noisier going forward but smoother in reverse! There's no binding anywhere An I'm a bit confused to why this is or to what could be causing it? Does anyone have any ideas? Kind regards Neil
mikeandnel
Hello Neil Your problem is caused by the worm being fractionally out of position on the motor shaft. Try adjusting the screws which fix the motor to the gearbox first to see if the presure of worm on the intermediate gear.is too much. Michael
B15nac
Hi So the worm gear may need pushing on to the motor shaft a tad more? As it's a high level box the parts are loctited together makes adjusting afterwords more difficult. There seems to be the right mess between worm an the intermediate shaft I think. Thanks for your help Regards Neil
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted December 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 23, 2013 Hi it may just need running in. Failing that a very small amount of toothpaste on the worm and run it for a few minutes in each direction and then clean thoroughly. finally lubricate with a little clock oil . John_Hughes
A common cause of this problem can be that in one direction the motor-shaft is forced against the rear motor bearing, and this may therefore need a little touch of lube. The occasional Mashima motor is prone to this, though generally they're very good - but I have seen the odd one which 'runs rough'. I wouldn't let toothpaste anywhere near High Level equipment myself, it's generally perfect as it comes. Mind you, I don't like using Loctite on anything either because it makes final adjustment almost impossible; but Chris at High Level is sometimes able to substitute different gears which are either press-fit or use a grub-screw. My main advice would be this: Have a word with Chris! He's the most helpful of manufacturers and will always leave you better-equipped than you were to start with! (Mind you, after Christmas might be a good idea!)
