tomstaf
Hi, I've selected an area (4 track mainline) on a curve with some buildings around the edge that I'd like to be able to print out a scale plan from. I know there are sites like Templot but tbh I just want the very basic footprint of the curve and building positions. Does anyone know of a way of doing so please, for example anyway from google-earth? Cheers Tom
Madcaravanner
There are some simple methods As well as computer programmes you can always try printing off the photo and drawing the design then you can download track templates (Full size OO and N ) from Peco so you could draw the design out on your board there are too many design principles that you COULD use but I am not experienced in using them I prefer the method above simply so I can visualise the layout and know that the turnouts are right for what I need
RMweb Gold kipford Posted January 3, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 3, 2014 Try getting hold/borrowing a large scale OS map of the area and copy that. OS have a digital map service that gives you free access for a trial. Here is Barnham station in West Sussex, which I think gives you all you want to know. Michael Woolford
You can use templot to create the plan over an image or drawing; might be a consideration. Michael
RMweb Premium Kris Posted January 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 3, 2014 Try your local councils planning website. They often have very large scale maps on them. In the past I have used these to help me create a layout plan or two. You start by taking something on the plan that you know the size of then on your graphic program of choice draw a line that represents the same objects length or width at your chosen modelling scale. Once you have done this scale the map image until the object and line are the same size. It's not totally accurate but near enough for planning a layout. If you did decide to go down this route and wanted to publish in any way, any images derived from the mapping then there would be copyright costs to consider.
