Andy M
Very nice, thanks for posting. Out of interest this weekend is 5164's last days running before withdrawal for its 10 year overhaul. Farewell for now to a magnificent locomotive. Regards, Andy.
Guest 838rapid
Its nice to see Pictures of "Sir Keith Park" working as it is rumoured that it has since suffered a major incident this week, resulting in the middle cylinder being damaged due to a cotter falling from the inside valve gear. Followed then by the Middle Piston passing through the cylinder block, and exiting the front of the cylinder. Am a shareholder in the group and hope its a simple enough repair and not as currently being suggested a new cylinder block required...
Andy M
That might explain why SKP has sat outside Bridgnorth shed mysteriously shrouded in tarpaulin for the last few days. I do hope it proves to be not too serious. Andy.
sixteen 12by 10s
I was on the train, when the SKP incident occurred. It was during the accent of Eardington bank, on the 1/01/14, a loud bang was heard followed by an emergency break application. The problem appears to be that the center piston rod cotter came out, and then the cross head collided with the end of the rod, knocking it 3" further forward, and through the front cylinder cover. The train was dragged back to BN buy the BN shunt engine
Guest 838rapid
I recieved a email today about Sir Keith Park,it says it seems water being carried over might have been a contributing factor to the incident, however it also says that it seems repairable without removing the cylinder. So fingers crossed it's running again in the near future
