jhock
Does any one have any experence of the Loksound select direct? I have it working fine but I can't get the lights to work, I have tested the bulbs but they won't work on the decoder, I am using the MRC Progidy Express. Does any one have any words of advice? Neil Rogers
have you plugged decoder in the right way round? try reversing plug in socket 180 degrees. hth Neil
jhock
Hi Neil, Is board replacement chip, so no plug, pretty sure I have wired it up correctly but I will double check.
torikoos
What sort of bulbs are in your loco, standard Athearn (1.5V) or higher? (in case it is an Athearn?) The Loksound Select Direct has resistors build in on each function output. It is designed to attach LED's directly. If you use 12V bulbs for example, you need to bridge these by soldering over the tabs next to these resistors. while I believe that the Athearn bulbs should work directly, I've never tried it. I did however blow mine up. I connected them to the outputs, with bridged resistors, so they were exposed to the full track voltage, as these are only 1.5V , so a very brief flash was all I got. I then removed the links again and replaced all with LED's, much better. I've posted a video about it on youtube, see here: Koos
jhock
Hi The bulbs are the standar Atlas LEDs, not sure of the voltage.
torikoos
The next thing to check is the polarity, LED's only let current flow in one direction, they remain 'off' when you change the + and - side, it might be as simple as that. LED's are usually anywhere between 1.5 and 3V, and it is quite likely that the stock Atlas LED's would work directly of a Loksound Direct output, but I've not been able to try that. If you have access to a voltmeter, it would perhaps be wise to try and measure the outputs of your decoder when switching a light on and off to see if you have any voltage coming out? jhock
Ok, I think I have this wrong they are bulbs not LEDs, I test them on power source (battery) and the work no matter which way the polarity is. With that in mind I am really confused now, the bulb is has an external resistor so won't blow, good but also should not matter which way round it is wired, so why can't I get the thing to work? I have factory reset but it still does not help?
Adrian Wintle
If the bulbs have their own external resistors and you are connected to the 1.5V outputs on the decoder then there is likely not enough voltage to light them. See post #4. Adrian
jhock
Mystery solved. The loco was second hand and came with NCE chip which was hard wired. The previous owner had mixed up the red and black wires on the motor, so as I had only tried 1 bulb it was not coming on as it was the other terminal that was live. Lesson learnt always the check the basics!
torikoos
Glad you've found the problem :-)
