Goods/coal yard access road and entrance

Hi folks,

Can any one help me with some images, dimensions, features etc of a goods yard entrance and access road.

To explain I have a main road through my little town and the access to the goods yard area is a road from this main drag. It goes up a slop for about 80' scale to the entrance gates?

I am thinking that this road will have two lanes and paths either side, much like the main road does.  Retaining walls too diminishing in height as the road raises up to the level of the yard.

So at the gates? a small iron wrought path gate on one side and then two big iron wrought gates across the entrance?

The yard has within it a cattle dock, goods shed, coal drops and a weight bridge so its not small.

Road width of say 9' per lane and 3' per path?

What do you think?

If any one has any pic's or links to some suitable prototype inspiration, North eastern or otherwise, I would love to see them.

Thanks all.

Cheers,

D.

Two footways unlikely.  Very good chance, if railway property, it would be stone setts, not tarmac, even up to the '70's, latterly with liberal patching and tracks along / across for utilites.

Nice pic fender, cheers for the link.

As for two paths, I am with you on this one 28XX.  One path to a wrought iron gate with a dressed stone pillar separating the main iron gates.  As for the stone sets, would the road be stone up to the gates or just in the yard i wonder.  Depends if the access road is owned by the highways/council or by the railway maybe?
