RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted January 22, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22, 2014 Superb. I wouldn't mind staying there! Can you accept me as a tenant? I'm a very responsible person (when I sleep) and I have clean healthy teeth. OK so I do have this strange hobby that makes me a little bit weird sometimes (I have been known to drool over bits of card stuck together), but let's not talk about that. A word of warning: Don't show these cottages to the BCB crowd. They'll take them off you and with great care put them somewhere out of sight.

Neilgue
Looks great Doug. I assume the texture on the walls is from watercolour paper. How did you color them? Neil
Chubber
Hi, Neil, Quite right, it's 'Bockingford' 300gm/m2 watercolour paper which is a nice texture between a Rough and a NOT surface. It's as tough as old boots, can stretch a bit and easily tinted as here with a watercolour wash. I cut the wall sections roughly to size before going over with Olive green and a No.12 brush. Basically it's built round the carcase of one half of John Wiffen's TO19 Row of Cottages [with his approval] with a chimney at both ends, some TXO1 brck for the chimney flues and TX11 brown stretcher for the stacks. The central heating flue terminals are little stacks of card punched with a leather workers punch coloured with silver paint, the doors downloaded and scaled from the net. The window frames are John Wiffen's too, straight from the Cottage model pages, but printed out OVER a previous background of a matching inkjet paint. I'm a little disappointed that the decorative barge boards made from Rymans 110gm white card did not take as smooth and even a coat of watercolour wash as the walls. The lintels are straight from the TO19 kit, the back doors a simple photodraw jobby on the same tinted paper. Cheers, Doug No, Mikkel, you'll only fill the spare room with model railways, drink beer, never cut the grass and play loud music, I'm looking for a better class of tenant.... RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted January 22, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22, 2014 Oh all right then :-) We used to stay in an apartment and sub-let it a few times. Some of the applications from would-be tenants were really strange! But seriously: They really are very nice cottages, to your usual high standards. Thanks also for the details on the paper etc. I still plan to try out card some day.
modelrailwayscenery
Excellent work Chubber. Love the use of watercolour paper to get the texturing to the rendered walls, and the ornate barge boards add a nice finishing touch! Justin

Could suffer severe damage and insurance write off if if its anywhere near water or damp! :-) What a lovely building Chubber (Doug) has produced.
