North Eastern
Hi All, I'm looking to buy an Easibuild 7mm BR MK1 Inspection Saloon to run on my planned layout set in Newcastle in the mid 1980's. Does anyone know if there was an Inspection Saloon allocated to the North East or near to that would have covered the North East as well? Also does anyone have any photos of said Saloon in the Newcastle area or any other visiting saloons that would allow me to base the model on a particular prototype? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Regards Chris
Ressaldar
Hi Chris, the Inspection Saloons that are the subject of the EasyBuild kit are the Diagram 1/552 builds of 1963 built at Swindon - Numbers DB999506, 508 & 509 and all three remained more or less in ex GWR/WR territory for most of their working lives. DB99508 is the only one that is still working on the network as the much altered Track Inspection Saloon with the inset sides. Afraid that I have no knowledge of North East area Inspection Saloons. cheers Mike
eastwestdivide
My 1984 Platform 5 departmentals book has DM45045 as a QXV CCE District Engineers' Saloon, at York out of use. That's the nearest inspection-type saloon to the Newcastle area that I can find, other than ScR-based ones, also in the DM450xx series. And based at Manchester for the LM region was TDB999503, one of the earlier BR saloons (not the same as those in the post above). In a book "British railway Bridges & Viaducts", there's a 1993 picture of inspection saloon DM395280 with a class 31 on Etherley Viaduct, County Durham. CME and Bottlewasher
Hi All, Does anyone know the liveries these IS's ran in between 1965 and 1976? Eg. Maroon, all over Blue (with FYEs)?? and Blue/Grey (with FYEs). Many thanks in anticipation. Kindest, CME
