sml1983
Thought I'd begin a post for questions concerning Mk 1 coaching stock I may have, so here goes. I assumed that the tell tale connected to the communication cord on the braking system was present at both ends but have just seen some pictures showing a carriage with them only at one end. I've never really thought to look at both ends to see if present or not. The photos of the one ended tell tale were of a non-gangway coach. Did these only have tell tales on one end or did all coaches? I'm researching into a Diag. 71 Open First. Namely lot no. 30010 with the running numbers M3000, M3001 and M3002. Completed in April 1951. Thank you for any information
Flood
Only at one end on all the Mk 1 stock. Also Gresley, Thompson, Stanier, Collett and Hawksworth stock and probably Maunsell and Bulleid stock as well (I haven't checked those).

sml1983
Many thanks guys. Any idea which end i.e. same end as dynamo or opposite?
Flood
Mk1s appear to be always the same end as the dynamo except on brake stock where the dynamo is at the brake end and the tell tale is at the passenger end. BGs normally don't have them but there is a photo of NCV (Newspaper BG with guard's compartment removed) 80622 in Marsden's Coaching Stock Recognition (1st edition has a photo on the rear cover, 2nd edition has a photo inside) with a tell tale at the non dynamo end. If you imagine that your looking at the end with the tell tale the toilets are on the left hand side and the dynamo is on the same side as the toilets and is closest to the end with the tell tale. Hope that helps
