RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 2, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2014 Well, the frost grilles for D6921 have been ordered courtesy of 'Leeslocos' and a pair for the class 40 project I'll be doing in the future. Since I weathered the n gauge 08 in BR blue to good reviews I had to do myself a oo gauge version. I already had a fairly shabby looking BR blue 08 so I've managed to get hold of a new body, as the chassis is ok and will look fine once weathered. The 08 I'm planning on modelling is D3464 which was reprinted into br blue in 1966, with blue buffer beam and cab side double arrows (see link below) so I can do it in a late 1960's dirty state. http://www.railblue.com/pages/Class%2008/D3464_EH_170966.htm It'll probably be a week or two till I start this but a couple if pics below of the new body on the old chassis. Thanks Paul
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 3, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2014 I been spending a little time looking at various early blue 08's so not sure whether to go with a version with blue buffer beam and black coupling rods like the link above and this http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p1051670273/h48010c76 Or do I go for yellow buffer beam and coupling rods ike on the link below? http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p1051670273/h38c43cc0 Decisions decisions!! bobster
Prefer the first one myself Paul, but I'm sure any will look good after your weathering treatment. Cheers, Bob.

Hi Bob Thanks for the great compliments. I think I'll prob go for that one to, only because it's pretty unusual and to be honest I'll prob do the other one at some point and bri.s n gauge 08 I weathered had the yellow buffers to. Can't wait to start this one might actually make a start tonight!! Cheers, Paul
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 3, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2014 Well I've made a start on the 08, I've painted the chassis black gloss with blue buffer beams, I'm starting from scratch so it'll be in a prestine condition first then I'll start the weathering., once it's re numbered and the double arrows are moved. Couple of pics below. Cheers Paul
Guest bri.s
Il be looking forward to see how you get on as usuall , didn't realise with the 00 version the buffer beam is separate from the body . Brian

Brian An it's a pain in the @&)" to get off if you don't know how to do it, the Hornby one is pretty easy but the Bacmann one has the screws hidden under the couplings. Must admit I'm looking forward to this one hope I get it as good as your one mate. Paul
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 5, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2014 Well after battaling with point motors most of the night I gave up and de-stressed by detailing and weathering the 08, must admit it looks rather good and it'll be a shame to let it get dirty.... What am I saying!!! It must be lack of sleep!!

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 5, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2014 Well in the last few hours D3464 has been working really hard and is in a bit if a filthy state!! First weathering has been applied, still needs to be sealed but think it's a bit late in the day or morning even to start using a compressor and an air brush!! Still lots to do but just thought I'd put a few pics on of the first part of the weathering. Cheers Paul

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 8, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 8, 2014 Didn't have much time tonight but I managed to seal the weathering with a coat of matt varnish. I then gave it another dusting of powders, these were then brushed off with the fibre pen and the body was sealed again with varnish. Pics below with the new dusting off weathering powder. The following pics show the body sealed for a second time after the excess powder is brushed off with the fibre pen. I'll prob repeat this process once more then I think it'll be more or less done, Thanks, Paul

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted April 9, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Hi I've given the body a final light dusting of light earth, followed by a light brush over with grey then some black. I then sealed it again with the airbrush using matt varnish. The fibre pen was then used to remove the dirt from the body side in downward strokes to represent the dirt being washed away etc by rain and washing. The body is more or less done an I'm quite happy with the result. I've also made a start on the chassis, weathered black paint, mixed with black powder and a gloss varnish, looks quite good but popin ism and thought are welcome as always. Some roof shots Then the chassis, I've placed the body on the chassis to but it's not attached properly yet Cheers Paul Edited April 9, 2014 by PjKing1
