MartinOgle74
Hi All, I am currently helping my Dad to recreate Hessle Station and Goods Yard from the 1940's to the 60's in N-Gauge and looking for any information, copies of photo's or track plans that exist. I have done a lot of research myself through books and the internet and very little information exists (apart from my Dad's memory), the majority of the pictures that exist are more of Hessle Haven. We do have a few picture of Hessle Station platforms and also a digital copy of a 1927 1/2,500 OS map. A little history behind our project is probably required. My dad was born and raised in Hessle in 1953 and as my Granddad was a Ganger on the railway around Hessle, my dad spent much of his time playing around the station, the goods yard, Hessle Haven and watching the trains from the Haven footbridge. Many thanks, Martin
Lord Flashheart
Hi Martin! Are you local to the Hessle area?, only asking as I'm a member of Hessle Model Railway Group and around 6 - 7 year's we did have a half finished N gauge layout of the full Hessle station area based in the 50s - 60s era.Due to a change of plans the layout was never finished and broken up however we did collect a lot of information mostly photos which my be of use to you and I'm sure we still have them stored away. Let me know if that's any use for you , our club chairman, and also my dad, Mike Knowles is a member on here as is club secretary Sean Hutchinson aka The Penguin Of Doom!. MartinOgle74
Hi Rob, Many thanks for your reply, that is fantastic news. We live in Selby, but my parents have their house up for sale and are looking to move to Beverley. Coincidently my dad has already met up with your group and you were kind enough to donate a few items from the layout you have mentioned, including the station footbridge. Where and when are your meetings, we would love to come up and chat with you. Kindest regards, Martin
the penguin of doom
Hi Martin. Good to see you on the forum especially with the subject matter above. The group meets on Wednesday in the Hessle Town Hall at 1900 and if you, (or anyone else for that matter), wants to come along, just give one of us a PM. Looking forwards to seeing progress on your model of Hessle too. Cheers. Sean.

clecklewyke
I lived off Anlaby Road in Hull and would often cycle down to Hessle, so have memories of the station and the goods yard but unfortunately I have no photos of the station or the yard. I am afraid we only took photos of the trains. Of course there is a thread on RMWeb about Hessle Haven. I'm sure Mike Megginson will have done a lot of research about the area. I look forward to seeing progress on your layout. I wonder if we ever met on Hessle Haven bridge? Ian
MartinOgle74
Hi Ian, Me you will not have not of met, but my Dad or his brothers you may have. They were born between 1950 and 1956 and lived in Hessle on the post-war housing estate not far from the station. Although we do go back very regularly as we still have a lot of family living in the area. I will have a look out for Mike's thread, thank you for the information.
