I believe that it was something to do with the engines not sure whether they were modified or replaced? What i would like to know is how they got there - was it under their own power or were they all hauled up there either as a train of their own or added into one of the Highland freight flows from Millerhill or Mossend.

If anyone has any pictures of the units on their way to Inverness id love to see them.

Cheers

Bry

Can't help with the trip to Inverness but given the phots around the same time also show class 114(?) unit there, am guessing they worked in multiple like this to get there. 5426003680_3a8756f6e0_z.jpg55993 Class 128 by Nich Y, on Flickr

Sorry I can't confirm the source for this, but I have read somewhere that they were all sent to Inverness for scrapping.  Several heritage lines were interested in them, for use as mobile self-propelled stores vans, but the presence of asbestos meant they couldn't be sold.

Not sure why they were sent all the way to Inverness though?

[cynic-mode] possibly so the heritage lines didn't know they were being scrapped [/cynic-mode off]
