knobhead
Gentlemen! What did the standard gauge engine livery look like in the 1860's, 70's and 80's? Most of the information to be found on the net starts with this: http://www.gwr.org.uk/liveriesloco1900.html If it's early GWR info, it seems to be broad gauge only: http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/paintings/great-western-railway-422-locomotive-lord-of-the-isles-9595 http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/paintings/great-western-railway-422-locomotive-iron-duke-9423 Is there an information gap or have I looked in the wrong places? buffalo
Hi Stefan, AFAIK there isn't much info online, though this site may be worth a look, though I don't remember if it has much on liveries. Otherwise, the most detailed source is the Great Western Way book. This describes both the Swindon and Wolverhampton liveries in some detail. There is much variation so it might be easier to specify which class at which date, then we might be able to come up with ananswer. I'll send you a PM. knobhead
A big thanks to Buffalo who sent me a PM with the colour summary tables from the Great Western Way. There will be a fun, and hopefully interesting, paint job coming up on the 2-2-2 I'm currently working on. Regards, Stefan
Miss Prism
I do not plan to cover pre-1900 liveries on GWR Modelling - to be honest, it is such a specialist and complex area, and there is no point in repeating the content of the Great Western Way HMRS book. HowardGWR
I do not plan to cover pre-1900 liveries on GWR Modelling - to be honest, it is such a specialist and complex area, and there is no point in repeating the content of the Great Western Way HMRS book. There is a new book published by the GWSG 'GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY STRUCTURE COLOURS 1912-1947 From Official Sources' cost £10. See its website. It doesn't cover the request but I thought it might be interesting anyway, to those who read this thread.
