ThePurplePrimer
Hi guys I have another half baked idea for a model that is basically a small goods yard but I Iike the idea of a small passenger platform in ( or very near ) the yard that can be used and accessed by the public I know there are plenty of prototypes of small stations with goods yards but are there any prototypes of what I have described above ? If there are then it would be great if you could point me to some pictures
DCB
Trouble House Halt on the Tetbury branch in Gloucestershire was just a short public passenger platform with a goods shed, if you made an accurate model most people would think you quite mad. Nick Holliday
The Wisbech and Upwell tramway comes to mind. Reasonably extensive goods facilities with minimalistic passenger provision.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted March 4, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2014 What about a staff halt? At Hoo Junction there was a short platform - less than half a coach-length - and every other train, so 1 train per hour, stopped to allow staff to come and go, joining and alighting from the front brake, just behind the driver. EddieB
Acrow Halt was a short staff platform serving a factory with private sidings (rather than a goods yard per se) just north of Saffron Walden. As the company specialised in concrete formworks, the halt was built out of concrete sections and slabs and with a concrete shelter, by the company itself and handed over to BR upon completion. bennyboy
Wasn't Dyserth in North Wales like that? Some of the pictures on this site would suggest that was the case. http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/d/dyserth/index.shtml

Del
My copy is boxed up at the moment, but I'm sure that this book includes a layout scheme based on Dyserth: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Modelling-LMSR-Ellis-C/dp/B0013BHUMQ
RJS1977
The Metrolink depot has a staff halt next to it too. Old Oak Common also had a temporary platform for the 2000 Open Day.
bennyboy
My copy is boxed up at the moment, but I'm sure that this book includes a layout scheme based on Dyserth: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Modelling-LMSR-Ellis-C/dp/B0013BHUMQ The only reason that I am aware of Dyserth is that it featured in a number of a Chris Ellis penned books (e.g Practical Model Trains) and magazines so there's a good chance that you are right. RMweb Premium Kris Posted March 6, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2014 There were quite a few yards that had platforms right next to them. If you were to pick one that also had a bridge you could get away from needed the platform to be minor.
sparks
The first thing that springs to mind is something like Pixash Lane? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/67574-pixash-lane/ On a similar (but real) lines is Foley Park Halt, which was pictured in one of Chris Leigh's GWR Country Stations books (can't remember which volume, sorry) Some other pictures here:- http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/mysteryphotos/index.htm?location=foley+park&srch=&page=

RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted April 13, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 13, 2014 Hi folks, A couple of folk have already suggested this, but Dyserth strikes me as ideal for what's being sought. From a modelling perspective there is a great deal to commend it - there is an ideally placed scenic break, there is the potential for a good variety of wagon types, and there is a conveniently off-stage industry whose traffic has to come through the station. If you are modelling the period from the early 60s through until closure then all your loco needs are available ready-to-run. Hope this is of some help or use. Regards, Alex.
