Emoticons not working

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Emoticons are not functioning for me. If I add one to a post the post not only doesn't display the emoticon but also loses some or all of the written text.

It shows fine in the editing window, its when I hit "post" and it goes live that the stuff goes AWOL

Has there been a change I didn't keep up with, or is there  a problem?

 Test.

It might be to do with the button far left Colin.BB code mode switched on perhaps.

Earlier this afternoon I encountered a bit of 'finger bounce' and managed to get two comment icons onto the same post by another member. And it was a heck of a job to get rid of one of them.  However we are now back to BR Repair Book language - tested and unable to recreate the fault (on this thread).

Indeed Rob, and I wont blame you for the fact that I just got brave and put an emoticon in a long post I wrote on my layout design thread which promptly disappeared all but the first sentence when I posted it!

AAAAARGHHH!!!!!!!!

Edit to say there should be a bang head emoticon here and there isn't because it disappeared when I posted

Yep and add to that the way your car can play up all week, then behave perfectly when you take it to the garage, and then break down the next day (see post 11)

Colin, did you know there is an autosave feature to recover 'lost' postings?  It may not have helped in this particular instance, but I have used it many times, when a posting (and it's always a long one) disappears.

When this happens, go back to the same topic and go to the reply box.  From memory, when you type the first couple of letters, you should get a message come up in the box with something like 'recover auto saved content'.  Clicking on that will often bring back most, if not all of what you lost.

Thanks Gordon, on this occasion it only gave me a sentence and a half, prior to where the first emoticon would have been.

I usually try to remember to copy and paste complex posts before I hit the button , just in case. Every time I remember, all is fine, every time I forget - you know the rest!

Next day - the car had been in the hands of the garage for 2 days and they could not trace the fault (failing to start) and said there was no problem I collected the car, drove a mile up the road and parked in the supermarket car park - came back to the car about 20 minutes later ... and it wouldn't start (but fortunately I'd ;learnt a little trick off an AA man when he attended the non-start event a couple of days earlier and managed to start it.  Subsequently took it to a diesel specialist - they found the fault in 10 minutes!
