cliff park
I recently had photovoltaic cells installed on my roof, and after the installers had gone I found about 6 metres of cable in my bin. I of course retrieved it and promptly forgot all about it. I just now came across it and decided to investigate. It is the wire used for the 12v connection between the cells and the inverter. It is 48/0.27. That is 48 wires, each 0.27 mm diameter. This gives a diameter of about 2.7 mm after all the insulation has been removed. Even a short offcut would yield enough for several trees in 4mm and a whole forest in 2mm. So, if you are having PV cells installed have a quiet word with the installer, and if you spot a neighbour getting some big panels on his roof...........
