RSS Fetcher
Well I had a couple of free hours today, so I thought I could keep up the momentum and attempt so more serious modelling (well at least my version of serious). So checking my list of work, well the control list which lists all my other lists I selected the "Green list", the "Signalling list" and the "Station list" and looked for the easiest of jobs listed on each

Platform Access steps - work continued on these, using that most dangerous of tools in my arsenal the dreaded contact clue, my main attention was spent on the passenger access to the platforms from the road bridge.

I decided that this would be made at the top of each stairway buy cutting a suitable sized doorway in the end walls, this will have further detailing added to present a suitable entrance.

The majority of the work has been completed, I just have to hit the exposed edges with a suitably loaded paint brush, I had hoped to show a photo of the street level entrance but the pictures I had taken would not upload, due to the file size (that's my excuse anyway )

Still to be completed is the painting of the roofs to help blend them in, of course plenty of weathering and of course the street level access, only small jobs, but worthy of addition to my famous lists (oh the bliss)

Signal Box - This year for Christmas I received from the Domestic Overlord the best presents yet, one was tickets to see the fantastic Giga Star Dame Edna Everage on the last night of her tour in Manchester, and the other was a Metcalfe Signal box kit. I must admit that I did not expect to receive this kit as a present, as I don't know about you, but I have that type of relative/friend who constantly asks you what you want, then total ignores you and gets you some crap gift set, you know the ones, some pants bottle of larger and a equally naff glass, of some deodorant set, which certainly attracts females, as in the stray cat variety.

Anyway when it comes to my Signal box, I was asked once, and low and behold on Christmas day I had the kit, thanks darling , the position of the box meant I had to cut a suitable sized chunk out of the embankment at the side of the mainlines. Armed with other tools of mass modelling destruction I managed to do this with no miss haps or mistakes.

The kit is being made as per instructions, and progress was certainly swift, added with the trusty old contact glue a very pleasing representation of a typical Signal box to be seen on LMS territory took shape.

The only problem I had was if I should model an interior or at least a representation of one, even though the layout viewer will not be able to see this, until I am decided I splashed a little black paint on the interior, and left the roof off for now. All that if left to do then is add the steps, paint the plinth its mounted on and of course weathering etc (more jobs to add to the lists, oh the joy )

Flush with success on using the dreaded contact glue, I then decided to use my remaining dwindling modelling time on the Station Masters allotment.

Green Fingers - I originally planed to include the Station Masters house at the end of the platform, but changed my mind, and decided to assume the house was located just off scene.

So totally flushed with my own success, I decided to get out the big guns, and went for the "super glue", this commodity is severely restricted in our house by the Domestic Overlord (as previously I have had a few accidents including gluing my slipper to my foot, on two separate occasions, apparently this was a stupid thing to do twice, but I'm not an idiot, I didn't do it on the same foot twice)

Since then this stuff is strictly controlled by the other half, and I have to give notice of the need to use it in advance, and complete endless risk assessment's and permits of work before I am handed over the glue. Being a cunning little Fox I have a secret stash I have smuggled into the house, and is hidden in a secret hiding place

I have yet to add some colour to represent the different type of veg/fruit, but I have manages to get two rows of Cauliflowers in, and a couple of rows to represent newly emerging green things and a couple of rows of what I think represents potatoes.

There is still a lot to do on this area, and I would have added this to another list, but I managed to glue my fingers together and attach various 2mm vegetables to my forearm and elbow, yes it is a skill, and something lesser modellers can aspire too lol.

Well I'm off now to harvest the crops sprouting from my elbow, until the next time, as always Happy Modelling
View the full article
