relaxinghobby
Have you ever seen one of these before? I have never even heard of it. Has anyone ever got one running? It's manufactured in a medium hard plastic maybe about as hard as the Dapol railway kits for locos and lineside buildings. The black plastic axle holders can be arranged in various permutations to adjust the wheel base. The instructions say it is designed for Romford or now that would be Markits wheels, axles and bearings and they say it will give accurate alignment for the old XO4 type motors from Triang Hornby. It comes with bolts and pickup strips. Who made and marketed these. The only weakness is that you have to make your own coupling rods, If you have that kind of skill and equipment to do so perhaps you could make your own chassis from scratch. If someone was to sell a plastic variable chassis kit now would it be a rival to having to solder assemble one by accurately lining up the two sides and cross members of an etched kit, maybe if one came with ready made coupling rods it could be a winner? With the solid axle inserts it is only suitable for side rod type chassis.

Or choose a set from the Gibson range of specific prototypes or their universal set. ..If someone was to sell a plastic variable chassis kit now would it be a rival to having to solder assemble one by accurately lining up the two sides and cross members of an etched kit, maybe if one came with ready made coupling rods it could be a winner?... Whilst it might tempt some beginners to have a go, I doubt it would take much trade from the likes of Comet or High Level. Nick
