Hi I`m Elgan from Bangor, North Wales

I wanted to do a Small WCML Theme End to End Layout seen as i don`t have Much Room in My Room.

So Yeah I decided i wanted to Make a Medium Depot to Hold DRS Locos and some other stuff. And i also wanted some sidings to hold Test Train Carriages or Wagons. And i have been looking for Inspiration out there and there seems to be some good stuff and i`ve got some ideas ! Oh and if you have a similar theme layout then please share as i`m always looking for Ideas ! The Size of the Layout should be around 2 X 8 Foot ish. Erm i did wan`t a Small through station but i don`t know if i`ll have room ! But seen as I`m more into DRS Class 37s, DBS Class 60s and Modern Image Diesel Locos i`m going to concentrate on Making a Small Depot / TMD first. With say 2 large sidings to fit wagons. Yeah so i have at the Moment a DRS Class 66 66412 and The Hornby DCC Mixed Freight Set. By the Summer Holidays the Layout will be on Legs and i will start scenery work. I will make a Track Plan for the Layout which i`ll upload soon.

Yeah so What do you think ??

Hope you like it ! Updates coming soon !

I`m Going to Make a 3 or 2 Lane T.M.D. with to Large Sidings for Holding Network Rail Coaches and Other Wagons. And the T.M.D. will mainly hold DRS Locos seen as that`s what i`m into. But i`ll also have some DBS and Some other Loco from Other TOCs

Hi Elgan, looking very promising thus far... :senile:

But i`ll also have some DBS and Some other Loco from Other TOCs

TOC is a Train Operating Company, so instead for DB Schenker etc it's a FOC (Freight)... Just a small point... :)

The plan is very creative, looks like you've done it on Word though but you can download a free trial version of Anyrail, which is a track planning software (it's very good too!). It allows you to choose the manufacturer and has all of their track for you to plan with.

Also, as I take it you like 37409, Model Rail did a limited edition with it (my profile picture!)... And I got it with sound :locomotive:

Hi Elgan - Looks like it could be a good setup. My layout (very must still under construction) will be similar in concept & size (10'x2'). My advice based on the track plan above is try not to have too many dead straight parrallel tracks. I tried that with my first layout which never got finished as once I'd laid the tracks it looked boring!

There are many far greater modellers than me on this site to get inspiration from, but please feel free to have a look at Laoson Valley - link in my footer.

Happy modelling!

37409 Is my Favorite 37, yet too See it though. and i Don`t think you can get The Model Anymore but i`m still looking out there for A DRS 37 maybe with sound but that would be expensive

Oh and thanks for the the reminder about FOCs ;) Thanks Jack.

I`ve been Measuring to see how much space i have and so on.. And the Layout will be 9ft Long and 2ft Wide.

That's loads of room!

Just keep in mind that if you're modelling "modern image" (what ever that means these days!) then a loco is approx 1ft and most wagons/coaches are approx 1ft, therefore if you want to run a voyager into a platform, you're going to need a platform of at least 4ft.

A freight service looks good if you can get up to 1 loco + 5 or 6 wagons (giving you a potential max of 7ft for a train) however if you concentrate on clay wagons or similar then you can reduce that drastically (nuclear flasks are quite often two 37s or 20s with a flask inbetween them!)

Given your age, I'm guessing you're on your holidays at the moment, so if you want some ideas, http://www.carendt.com/ is an amazing website for small layout designs.

If you have the time, it's also well worth learning XTrckCad - it's not as user-friendly as anyrail, but it will also allow you to have more than 50 pieces of track!

HTH,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Why do you say Voyager ? I`m modeling a Depot/TMD :)

Oh and the Layout could be 10 x by 2 ish foot long but it would be slighly smaller then two wide though.

I`ll take a Look at the link

And Yes i am on Holidays Today, i wen`t to Warrington Bank Quay Earlier. To go Spotting

I`ll check that out after giving anyrail a Try ;)

Ok so UPDATE !!!
The Old Track Plan i checked is A. Kinda copying a Plan on RMWeb B. Not enough room for that C. Wouldnt fit in the Back of a Car as an Exibition ;) Giving you some Hints there

So here`s the new one, done all by Hand !! So this is the way it will be facing against the Wall if you was to look at it Birds Eye. And the wall is to where the Incline climbs up to the Road Bridge so here it is !!

But this is the way i decided to Put the Numbers labelling Everything !

So Yeah,
1. The 2 Lane TMD / Shed
2. Carriage Siding / Inspection Platform
3. Extra Siding for other locos from the FOCs like Colas Rail, DBS and Maybe some Yellow Special Visitors cough 97s cough
4. Workers Hut
5. Road / Car Park for NR or Workers
6. Scenic Incline
7. Scenic Area
8. Road Bridge

Yeah so that`s the New Plan right
And i was just thinking of all the ways i can Earn cash one was Sell 220008 in its box as a Train Pack Say 50-60 Quid then in around 2 Months a Trip to Alton towers is on its way which is around £45 ish quid for bus and entry then take around 20 quid with me. So i have to Decide wether to Pay £65 for an Amazing Time with Friends or.... Work on the Layout ? Hard one acutally, depends how Schools goin. Then the Legs I`m getting for the Layout to go are for Good Grades end of Year. Then Probably 65 maybe even more if i do some Chores. I can get some Track Probably Just points or Peco Track, Code 75 or 100 ? Help ??? And then the rest for another board and whatever is left i`ll use too start the incline or do all the ballasting depending on if the track is finished ? Then Xmas or Later on I`ll get a Shed :
Bachmann 44-178
44-178_1529436_Qty1_1.jpg
and some Workers :
Bachmann 36-051 btw
36-051_1.jpg
a New Loco :
One of these...
138340922237425_1.JPG
138926136637605_1.JPG
Or 57309 (When it comes out)
One of the 68, probably the one that has the Name i like most :)
or 47853 is there are Any Left by Decmber / November :)
Or Maybe a Colas 70
Not the Respray though, a Bachmann One when...
139464611570805W_1.JPG
Erm Yeah that Preety Much sums us up. And some NR Test Coaches if anyone can find me some ? (Not for the NMT/HST tho)

So that preety much sums up the update ??
WHAT DO YOU THINK ???? :D

Oh and about the Exibition Thing Its a Maybe !!!! And i Mean Maybe !!!!

If its Small enough to fit in the Back of a Car, Mums. Then why not if i check the measurements and No I`m not changing anything on the Layout so it can be an exibition i might for other reasons but not because of Exibitions. Probably a No for Now !!

Hi Elgan - I like the latest plan - the green space / embankment gives a nice balance (i.e. not too much track all cramped in!). I've used Peco code 100 as it was slightly cheaper. Code 75 is slightly more realistic visually but by the time you've weathered & ballasted the track I think the difference is marginal.

I like the look you your loco wish list. I quite fancy some DRS 37's but they seem to be silly money at the moment. I really fancy a DRS 68 when Dapol eventually release it!

On a slightly different note, have you spotted DRS a having an open day at their Crewe depot on 19 July? Tickets from the DRS shop http://www.directrailservices.com/drs-club.html

Happy modelling!

I think i`ll probably be using what`s cheapest but good quality, better than Hornby ! And i don`t really mind about the Track Looking realistic.

I was thinking the same thing with the DRS 37s slightly 2 expensive !!! And maybe after seeing a few reviews on the Dapol Model then its a Possibility !

And yes i have heard about the Open Day in Crewe, better get buying tickets !!!

Thanks,

Elgan :)

So i thought i`d make one of those things like i`ve done before saying what Kind of Things Run on the Layout from a Spotters Point of View if you know what i mean like,

So the list of Trains I`ll be Running on the Layout to Start

Colas Rail - Class 56 or 70

DBS - Class 60

DRS - Class 20, 37, 47, 57 and 68

And maybe some Special Visitors wink.png

So Just briefly a bit about the Layout :

Arley Road T.M.D. is a Small Diesel Depot in Crewe, situated just outside the station in Crewe its Partially Owned By DRS but its a Network Rail Depot where most FOCs Can hold or Refuel Locos. The Layout is 9ft by 2ft and is in two parts separated in two the TMD part is 5 by 2 ft and the Fiddle Yard is 4 By 2

Ok now the Serivces :

So the Nuclear Flask Trains are all terminated and offloaded heren so the 6K41, 6K73 and 6M63 from Valley, Sellafield and Bridgewater are termainted here (one reason why its DRS owned) and they all Run as Required

Same story for the Locos run from here in the Morning and come back later with Loaded Flasks

The VT Thunderbirds are Kept here instead of Crewe Station itself

Lots of Test Trains are started here running Arley Road TMD - Derby RTC via Holyhead or terminate here After running Derby RTC - Arley Road via York

Here many locos Terminate seen as they might come for Servicing, Refueling and sometimes just holding.

Oh and if ever a Intermodal Train needs to Swap Locos at Crewe at 66 or Skips will be there.

So Basically the kind of services you get here are Flask Trains, Thuderbirds, Test Trains, and Light Engines Moves

Hope your Looking forward coz I am !
