aasmall
Has anyone upgraded the Hornby (ex Lima) JCA twin bogie tank wagon? Any photos? I think the wagon is quite a good representation with the tank mounting being the most obvious difference, other differences being: Routing of pipework Walkways Access handles Former advertising board brackets I think the underframe is possibly slightly longer than the prototype. I found some great detail photos on Flickr, thanks to the original poster! https://flic.kr/p/iWNnMP About to start the upgrade this weekend, any pictures, advice, previous experience would be grately appreciated. Cheers, Andy
RMweb Gold Scottish Modeller Posted April 17, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2014 Hi Andy, A bit more different than you have noticed... The model uses 2 of the V tank bodies which have the same length of taper to each half of the tank. The real thing has different length taper length for each side of the tanks. The outer halves of the tank are longer than the inner halves of the tank. You will find a drawing of the tanks on the web which will make this clearer than my words alone. A good, square on, side shot will confirm this though. Thanks ps - Will pass on you thanks next time I see Tom....

Thanks Phil, I have to admit I have seen and been looking for photos of the wagons for a while but didn't notice this. Now you mention it, it is quite obvious from the stiffening plates which extend to different heights at each end of the tank and possibly this is most obvious on the Croxton + Garry ones due to the livery! Do you happen to have a link to the drawing you mention? Thanks, Andy
