Further back in this thread someone asked for a shot of a Deltic starting up. Her's my effort I've not long uploaded to my Flickr site showing 55017 at Kings Cross, 8th September 1981.

For more of my Deltic photos go to https://www.flickr.com/photos/95430950@N07/sets/72157633773320752/

They are much better resolution than I can upload here.

Now that's what I am talking about! When they had been standing on the buffers for an hour and let out that big cough and spewed fumes everywhere!

Here is 55002 still in blue leaving Calton tunnel at Edinburgh on 20.9.79

Ahem...55022 Shirley?! Great piccies all round though of the King of the diesels. Just caught them on the way out in the late 70's early 80's. Fabulous.

 Yes. Brain fart.

Unusual duty for my namesake here at Newcastle on 10.10.81 as she shunts stock for train 1N12 opposite the then platform 10. Note the ancient North Eastern Railway platform seat on the ballast!

Paul,

Thats a nice shot and I can just hear the hum/roar! It shows 55 017's repaired front end off well too, with the missing central front step.

Regards,

Andy.

If you are all suffering some withdrawal symptoms, then maybe this will help:-

I hope that link works. It should be a sound recording of The Prince Of Wales Own Regiment Of Yorkshire passing by in the late 1970s.

Sadly no photos on here yet of Boat 18. The 'Moss was the only Deltic I was hauled by on the main line when they were in service for BR. Newcastle to Waverley and back, 1976 iirc.

Not a problem.

Her nameplate in 1979.

Did anyone try that link? Did it work?

It works for me, but then I am the creator of the download page - so it will do so automatically.

If it works for everyone, then I might try and dig out a few more old recordings and upload them to that page.

EDITED: to add that I have moved the file to another website, see message 98

Didn't work for me. It said Windows Media Player required a plugin to make it work, then it said the plugin was incompatible with the version of Google Chrome i am running. It also said the plugin wasn't compatible with Windows 8 at all (I run Windows 7 Pro).

EDITED: to say that I have given up with '4shared' site and have registered with Mediafire.

Maybe this will give user friendly results?

Would any adventurous soul like to try http://www.mediafire.com/listen/y799k6kyz94wrzy/55005.aiff

At last. Something works.

Thanks for trying these links. To prevent this going off at a tangent I have started a separate thread called Jonny's Audio (or something like that) on which I will add more nostalgic file links.
