hayfield
I bought several electric motors off Ebay and this KTM motor is so much bigger than another I have As you can see its quite large, body 49 mm (62 mm to end of shaft) by 20 mm tall by 16 mm wide At a guess its for 0 gauge Runs fine and the shaft is about 2.4 mm diameter (3/32) Are they any good please Also 2 flywheels, again look to be 7 mm ones The large one is 21.5 mm x 7.5 mm the other is 17.5 mm x 7.5 mm. Both have a hole which allows a 3 mm rod to be pushed in from one side
34theletterbetweenB&D
Good motor, pick of the group of 4 you have there. The double ended job is a K's comedy fall apart special...
hayfield
I know about the K's (mk 1 ?). Have a few k's motors which do work in their locos and much better than the later type HMP. I did buy a motor (the larger type which has been stuck back. They are not as good as modern motors, but for their age very good. This K's is much smaller and might be of use in a Wills P class loco
Thane of Fife
The Kays motor is a Mk 2. That and the larger Mk 1, were Ok for their time, but the follow-up HP2 was not very good. I still have the Mk1 in a Kays O4 from about 1970, and it is quite powerful , but has high current consumption. I must replace it with a Mashima can and high level gearbox sometime. I recently replaced a Mk 2 in a Nucast Y7, and sold the motor to a pleased recipient as his Mk2 in another Nucast kit, had failed after 20 years. If I can get 20 years out of my Mashima motors, I shall be very old when they need replacement. Thane of Fife
hayfield
Thank you I got them the wrong way round as I thought the mk 2's were the larger, thanks
DCB
The K's motor looks very short, I have K's Mk 1 with screws holding the rounded pole pieces in place and what I assumed were Mk2's with squared off pole pieces glued in place both of which take Triang Dock shunter armatures, that K's looks like it takes a short Triang TT armature so I am confused as to exactly what it is. K's motors in my experience were very smooth but "Gutless" and need to run at high revs, fitting the 3 pole Triang armatures made them more powerful at low revs. I think the K's needs some form of external bracing to keep the pole pieces in place at the worm end if it is to stay in one piece
