ireturn
I am new to dcc and have just built anew layout for my grandson using Hornby's new track plan book.(plan 4/13). Everything is running fine until I cross a loco from inner to outer loops on the opposing points between these loops. The loco stops and the Select controller resets itself to default 3. I have power to all parts of track using just one dcc connection on the track. Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.
James90012
Sounds like it is shorting out to me - most likely because of the wheels of whatever loco your using being so wide that they are in contact with both polarities of each point line when they cross. A bit of tape is a quick fix if you want to get it up and running quickly!
Stevelewis
Unfortunately this occurance is common with Hornby Points and digital systems, basically the clash of 2 eras!, the point being designed long before Digital came on the scene did not cause problems with Analogue systems as the locos momentary short circuit event was not enough to trigger an analogue cutout, but digital systems are much more sensitive so react rapidly. There are ways round it, using insulated rail joiners etc and additional feeds. You will probaly find not all locos have the same effect, This occurance is not common when larger radius points are used ( Peco medium, large and small rads etc) but obvously this is not going to help your situation
