Book recommendation/search

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

some weeks ago i read in Scenery, scutures & Transport or the cardbuilding forum about useful books on scratchbuild buildings.

One member made a statement something like that book "was very helpful" not like a real recommandtion more like an advice.

The book was not a railway related one instead a more architecture related one.

I checked amazon then and remember that it was not a photographic cover instead of a sketched.

Unfortunately i forgot to put it in my wishlist.

The cover looks equal/similar to "Houses in Britain" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Houses-Britain-Outside-John-Prizeman/dp/1899163670/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1401614957&sr=1-1&keywords=Britain+houses

Could be that it is "Houses in Britain but i want to be sure.

Maybe somebody could remember that he made that post or read that also and let me know.

Thank you and have a good sunday

Regards,

Andreas

The best book on architectural scratchbuilding I found was John Ahearn's "Miniature Building Construction" and this was the book that got me started.

There are my own books of course but they are more of a plan book than a tutorial.

But I do believe that Geoff Taylor has brought out several excellent videos on scratchbuilding and knowing his work I would say probably the best to date.

Anyway, read my articles, nobody usually does but it's worth a shot !

Cheers.

Allan

Hi outcastjack,

thank you for the link but that was not the one i'm searching.

Have searched a lot before i opened the topic.

The book was more on styles of houses/buildings.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Regards

Andreas

HI Allan,

i read a lot on your posts;-)

Very inspirational which put my mind to drop buying scenecraft...

The reason why i search that specific book is that i have some stuff describing techniques to build but no idea what exactly to build.

This book won't have been the one that you were looking for, but I will recommend it never the less:

Illustrated Handbook of Vernacular Architecture

R.W.Brunskill

Faber and Faber (Faber Paperbacks)

ISBN 0 571 11244 7

My very well thumbed 1978 edition cost me all of £2.95!

Found that it was the Houses in Britain;-)

I remembered that The Duke of Glouchester was named as artist for the book.

Thank you for advice!

Have a nice evening.

Regards

Andreas
