david12345
Just got an email announcing the arrival of a Greater Anglia 153 but only available online or through concessions. Didn't realise they were going to do this one. Looks pretty good.
andyman7
There is definitely a steady trickle of new products, just not a torrent...as a reminder, concessions include WHSmith Modelzone outlets, Hamleys Regent Street and Harrods, and it'll be post free direct from Hornby too. Matabiau
This was advertised over a year ago for sale through concessions and the Hornby website only. Given it was never intended to be available through independent model shops it's not surprising that after the initial announcement in Hornby's annual catalogue it was never spoken of again. I have ordered one, although with the new website layout I missed the box to enter the Collectors Club discount code!
'CHARD
Cute little train, in that livery so well thought-out for staying clean on diesels!

rembrow
I was told by a local retailer that the Greater Anglia 153 arrived from China some months ago but had faulty chips, so was returned for rectification. There is a lot of frustration by some retailers in this region (East Anglia) that Hornby have limited the outlets for this model as it would have been a good seller in this area. In the past East Anglian toc liveries have not been good sellers on a national basis, so it will be interesting to see what the take up is
Matabiau
Is this unit being produced in smaller numbers than a standard catalogue run? If so this would explain the concession only distribution. There wouldn't be enough to go around by the time the box shifters had received their allocation.
surfsup
Ah, now if I remember correctly this was another one of the original models to be produced by Hornby exclusively for the Modelzone concession along with the FGW Mk3s. I guess the FGW Mk3s were in production at the time of MZs demise, but these obviously wernt. Good to see them finally make there way into production now though, hopefully Hornby will consider reviving a few more liveries on the 153 given their widespread uses and TOCs! HeavyDuty
Thank you for posting this - it's a model that I've been waiting to be released. I've been looking at too many photos of Cromer!
rembrow
Come a bit south of Cromer, Heavy Duty and see Greater Anglia 153s on lines through beautiful Suffolk countryside, on the Gainsborough Line(Marks Tey (south of Colchester) to Sudbury branch (the post Beeching cut off of what was the line from Colchester to Cambridge via the Crouch valley)) and Ipswich to Felixstowe branch. With the later line, you can mix them up with Class 66 and 70 container freight traffic out of Felixstowe Port on the same single track line to Ipswich
HeavyDuty
I'm pretty much fascinated with East Anglian operations in general, rembrow - I could easily spend a month railfanning Norfolk and Suffolk. Do you remember the SLT layout craze from a few years back? That's when it all started, Sudbury was the gateway drug for me. I never built an SLT at the time but am seriously considering one now - the availability of IKEA APA boxes has gotten me interested in the concept again. Sheringham is a possibility, or something freelanced - and this 153 will be perfect. I ordered one last night...
159220
Mine is delayed until Tuesday as their website lost my address and sent to my Parents! Luckily a Hornby employee was at work over the weekend and has solved. I am rather impressed with Hornby right now! Considering this was due out in June 2013, pushed back to January 2014 and then May 2014 before June 2014 I can wait an extra day! I wonder shall anyone receive before Tuesday, as I just hope hope hope that the Blue "Greater" show in the photo is actually the correct Grey "Greater" as seen on the real units. 159220
Spot the fail. Doh! Does anyone look at the actual colour of the liveries and decals at Hornby? Disappointed, to say the least.
Glorious NSE
LH lettering should be grey?
Matabiau
I haven't found any photos on the net of the logo with the "Greater" in blue. Everywhere seems to show it as grey, ambit different shades of more or less blue-grey depending upon the lighting. Is it possible that the first examples of this livery were blue-red and only subsequently became grey-red as the livery settled down?

Martin-C
Hmm..... Nice model, but those lights will need a bit of work: New type with dual rear/front markers on the real loco in Beast's photo, but old type with 3 separate lights per housing on the Hornby version (unless its been updated of course!). But, no problem, .....we have the technology .
Matabiau
Now available from Kernow Model Rail Centre and presumably from other good model shops: http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/product/43225/R3214_Hornby_Class_153_Diesel_Multiple_Unit_number_153_309 Funnily enough it is no longer available direct from Hornby. Matabiau
I understood that this model was only to be released through Hornby concessions (such as Locomotion) and not on general release, hence my surprise to see it advertised by Kernow.
