Ive595
Good morning, I have several questions which cover the same thing, When did the logo get changed from the groups to british rail and from early BR logo to later type. All very simple? no its not that easy, what I mean is, when did the job get done, obviously not overnight and all at once, but as and when the loco was in for overhaul? Or in batches? I know many got forgotton or left as is when it went from early to late BR, were there similar from group to BR? Have conflicting photos and am generally curious. Thanks Ivan
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted June 10, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2014 There were locos still carrying the first BR lion crest until the end of steam.

RMweb Gold mcowgill Posted June 10, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2014 Here's a Manor class loco at Swindon shed 16 years after the GWR ceased to exist - but look at the tender! https://www.flickr.com/photos/david_christie/6216295783/

Model that and watch for the frowns.......
SRman
Generally it was done at overhauls but could be "as and when" - whenever it was convenient for shed staff or workshop staff. As the other posters have said, some older logos/crests and insignia survived long after the changes were first announced. Also throwing a spanner in the works were some of the hybrid liveries: things like Bulleid pacifics with 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' in full on their tenders in Southern Railway 'sunshine' style lettering, often still in SR malachite with yellow stripes, or green diesels with BR 'arrows of indecision', blue diesels with small yellow panels and British Railways 1956 crests, mixed typeface styles from different eras ... the list could go on for a long time. Best advice: you can model anything you like; the chances are, you'll also be able to find a photograph to prove the naysayers wrong! Alternatively, model from a photo that you can find anyway. Ive595
Thanks for all replies, I totally agree with all, and as SRMan said I'm sure there is a picture somewhere to prove me right. I will repaint one of my 9f's blue with a small yellow panel front and rear! Ivan
cctransuk
Good morning, I have several questions which cover the same thing, When did the logo get changed from the groups to british rail and from early BR logo to later type. Please !! British Rail was the start of the rot that ended in privatisation. BRITISH RAILWAYS was the era from nationalisation until the elimination of steam and the dreaded blue plague.
