Alcanman
Yesterday afternoon I paid a very brief visit to TY. With 3 rows of EWS HTAs stabled, a quick look from the other side of the bridge revealed 3 EWS 66s The small office reminds me of the Hornby Skaledale model Mal
kenw
Spotted another unusual visitor in the shed, a 67 Not quite unusual, the 67 on 'Thunderbird' duty at Newcastle goes to Tyne Yd for it's servicing / exams
rob D2
Is the coal from the import terminal ? Does it go to drax or further ?
Alcanman
As the 3 empty EWS coal trains are facing north, I guess they will be heading for Butterwell Opencast or Battleship Wharf Coal Terminal, North Blyth. I think coal from Butterwell goes to Drax. There is also a daily coal train from North Blyth to West Burton Power Station. Mal
Mark Saunders
This weeks visitors have included 66101: 66747: and these 2 wagons: John The ferry vans, FPA's, first batch MEA and BDA that have been long term residents have been moved away by Ron Hull presumably for scrapping last! Alcanman
I visited TY again yesterday afternoon. Once again there were 3 rows of empty EWS HTAs but this time no locos stabled at the end of each rake of wagons. Instead there were 3 EWS 66s in the yard. First a general view of the yard. 66165 66127 with what looks like green PNAs (like the Bachmann Railtrack wagons perhaps?) 66149 and 67005 Can anyone let me know what type of ballast wagon is sandwiched between the 2 PNAs on this pic? TY 20.9.14 006.jpg Mal Mal It is one of the MLA's that was to have gone to Metronet but Network Rail took them instead! The train of Falcons currently at Tyne Yard has a mixture of types with JNA, IOA; two types of MLA the Metronet and EWS Red Snappers. Who says there is no variation in modern trains! The green boxes are pairs of low height 30 foot spoil containers on Freightliner FEA twin sets! kenw
Definitely among the "goings" part of this thread... The former Tyne Yard (TY) P.S.B. seems to recently have gone. Shown previously in post #63, mistakenly described as the hump control tower, although it did incorporate the hump control room in the rear of the building, the main building was the Tyne Yard signalbox and controlled the ECML area from Bensham (between Low Fell and K.E.B. Jns) fringing with Gateshead, to the former Relly Mill Jn. area (south of Durham) fringing with Ferryhill, and also the Norwood - Dunston route, which became the present Carlisle route on closure of the Scotswood route, as far as Swalwell Jn between MetroCentre and Blaydon fringing with Blaydon. It closed when the present Tyneside IECC took over signaling of the area as part of electrifation.
Alcanman
I paid a visit to TY yesterday to try out my new camera and telephoto lens (essential at TY). The yard was quite busy. Firstly, the 5 EWS HTAs involved in the West Sleekburn derailment are stored at TY 66152, the loco involved in the derailment was also stabled. 66515 with auto-ballasters and the 'virtual quarry' in the background. Nice and clean! 66056 DRS 37s on RHTT duty pass on the adjacent ECML Mal

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted December 3, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 3, 2014 Great pictures what is in the yellow container please? It's a support vehicle for the likes of the HOBC (High output Ballast Cleaner) and TRT (Track Renewal Train) I think they contain the likes of small workshop and other equipment needed for the above trains as well as an on-board generator http://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/UKRailRollingstock/Y-Tops-codes/YSA-HOBCTRT-support-vehicle/ Cheers, Mick
johndon
A few from Friday: 66413: 66954 passes on the ECML with a coal train. Interestingly this train came to a complete halt under the bridge whilst on the main line and a number of rail workers disembarked from the loco. 66547 & 66598: Some RHTT wagons: John Edited December 7, 2014 by johndon
deltic17
Very interesting thread - it seems traffic has picked up a bit recently especially with the virtual quarry - nice to see - I remember it well in the 1980's - I visited the TOPS office around the mid 80's as part of a school project which I'd arranged by contacting BR at Newcastle - got shown around everything but I didn't take my camera - I last had a quick look over the bridge on a visit to the NE about 5 years ago.
