drewn
I have just purchased a SWD soundchip which has F5 & F6 as auxiliary functions, but which do not seem to do anything. It also has a guards whistle facility on F11 which I can't use because my controller is only a Hornby Elite, which only allows me to go up to F9. Is there any way, the whistle facility can be transferred to one of the aux. functions? (I realise it would have to be done by someone with a more sophisticated controller) DRew
Nigelcliffe
The Elite manual from Hornby's website has instructions to access functions to F28. So, suggest reading the manual, and if your Elite is very old, upgrading it to current firmware (I believe this can be done at home with a USB cable). Function changes in a LokSound chip is possible), but you need to know the existing CV structure. The alternative is educated guesswork to determine the structure, which can work, but is very slow to find what is happening. Three ways to get the existing structure: Ask SWD for a full list of all CV's in the chip (as a computer file !), use JMRI (current test release version) to read all 640 CV's in the function mapping table, find someone with a LokProgrammer who can read the function mapping table. SRman
Functions can be remapped. If the Hornby Elite can 'talk' to a computer (I believe it should be le to), you can load Decoder Pro (a free program) which will allow you to remap the functions by simply ticking or unticking checkboxes. Decoder Pro would also allow you to access higher functions using a virtual controller on the computer screen.I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to recall that some SWD sound projects allowed for notching up and notching down of the engine sounds. Try using F5, clicking it on for a few seconds then toggling it off again for a few seconds. repeat a few times and see if the engine revs up while the loco remains stationary. If this does work, then doing the same thing with F6 (making sure F5 is off) should throttle the engine revs down again.
drewn
OOPS! Guys. I've just noticed a big mistake on my part! My controller is the basic Hornby Select and NOT the Elite. Sorry
Nigelcliffe
Previous advice from me and SRman still applies, but you now also need to find someone with a device capable of reliably programming decoders. Suggest asking around where you live for someone with a Sprog or similar. You still need either the data from SWD, or it will be a fairly long process to read in the function mapping table with JMRI before you can make sensible changes.
