Intercity 125
Does anyone know of any kits/Ready-To-Plonk/other ideas that could be used to make something like this in 4mm scale? It will form the back scene for my new layout. 'CHARD
Maybe Townstreet or Skytrex would be worth a look. I think I've even got some US HO stuff that would work, but don't think it's Walthers. EDIT: no, it's DPM the stuff I've got stands for Design Preservation Models I think
'CHARD
I was thinking of Walthers as a wholesaler, as a place to start looking http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?category=Structure&subc=BUSINESS&scale=H&subc1=TRACKSBUS Facepalm! It's late, I'll get me coat!!!!
cary hill
Adapted/extended/bodged http://scalescenes.com/products/T026-Factory-warehouse ? Nowhere near as pretty as your example, but then the Scalescenes factory/warehouse isn't a listed building, however it is very cheap as a multiple print download. (http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/82957-north-end-tmd-1970s-present-day-tmd-and-mainline-but-mostly-1980s/) Have a look at Design Preservation Models at: http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/category/HOScaleModular They are now part of the Woodland Scenics range. There is a free downloadable pdf with construction details and printable outlines of all the parts so you can create your building literally on paper so that you can work out the parts required and get an idea of size. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted June 23, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2014 Yes, DPM endorsed here, too. Their essentially modular nature gives ample scope for fitting into your landscape or corner, however awkward the shape or space. And, for most of us, the difference in brick size between 1:87 and 1:76 is simply not obvious, particularly in a background building.
RMweb Premium 31A Posted June 23, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2014 Might be worth looking at the Atlas kit 'Middlesex Manufacturing Company' (catalogue no. 721). I got mine from Model Junction, Slough: http://www.modeljunction.info/estore/product_info.php?cPath=25_34_42&products_id=34773 As it comes it isn't as big as it looks (partly due to being H0 rather than 00), but for a corner or low relief backscene where only one side and end are visible, it's possible to modify and combine the parts from the other walls to make a taller building. I've got one on the go at the moment myself, here's a couple of quick shots of it: If you go into Google Images for 'Middlesex Manufacturing' it throws up pictures of other ways people have modified it. Adrian Wintle
I prefer the Walthers Cornerstone Modulars over the DPM ones, but they have discontinued the line. I've used the N-scale versions of both. Adrian
Intercity 125
Thanks for all the replies, I knew RMWeb was the place to turn for (everything). I think I'll see if I can get hold of one or two of those Atlas kits, and some Walthers vintage fire exit. (Like the fire exit in this shot: http://www.heritage-explorer.co.uk/file/he/content/upload/database/5702_450.jpg) I'm glad I liked that Atlas kit (and that you found it) so I don't have to scratch build a 9-storey (or 10 if you include the basment)
Intercity 125
Crikey! The really isnt a "not much bigger than a boxcar" industry And mine will be three storeys taller than the one above!! And no, I'm not making a working lift with working sliding door either!
