Coldgunner
I've got relatives in Hamburg who I want to go visit next year, but I'd really like to tie it in with a continental Railtour either from Hamburg or a nearby city in the north. I've tried googling, but the language barrier is making things a little tricky. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good, English site, that I can easily see whats on offer. Ideally something very similar to uksteam.info. It has to be steam traction though.
Allegheny1600
Hi there, Pick up a copy of "Todays Railways Europe" - pretty much most railtours are advertised in there as well as the operators! Cheers, John E.
Coldgunner
I'll check it out. I've seen video's on Youtube heading out of Hamburg, it looks like an incredible steam scene. I've been to Hamburg station before.
jonhall
I can't do an English site, but try http://www.lok-report.de/termine/termine_intro.html then choose the month from the list on the left to see whats on the VDMT is sort of the equivalent of the Heritage Railway Association as far as I can tell http://www.vdmt.de/ but a number of lines aren't shown, from Hamburg I would suggest that the narrow gauge line on Rugen (including the nearby transport museum at Prora) andBad Doberan are both really worth a day out each. If you time your visit right, there are likely to be steam specials to the steam event 'Dampf Rundum' at Flensburg http://www.flensburg-tourismus.de/kultur-events/veranstaltungshighlights/dampf-rundum/ which includes steam ships, and traction engines - I know I've posted these photos before, but...any excuse... EddieB
Yes, another vote for Lok Report. Forthcoming railtours for the next period are listed in the magazine (odd copies are becoming harder to find over here, if you're not a subscriber), but the website is more up do date and covers a wider timescale (rolling annual calendar). As with the UK, railtours are subject to locomotive availability and service conditions - late running and cancellations can occur.
Tigerli
In addition to the Lok Report, I would recommend the Eisenbahn Planer which is available in English http://www.eisenbahn-planer.de/?page=&lang=en and the Drehscheibe (german only) http://www.drehscheibe-online.de/ds_redaktion/ds_termine.php @Jon Hall ... Nice pictures !
