brossard
Chris, you could get a replacement pony truck from Comet Models. It requires soldering but isn't difficult. I think it looks better too. However, Bachmann's service has been great in my experience and as the model is fairly current, I wouldn't expect you to have any difficulty. Silver Sidelines
Oh bad luck Chris Fingers crossed that Bachmann will provide. When I saw the title I thought the question was going to be about tractive effort and haulage power. My Fairburn (new from Hattons) could hardly pull itself around the layout. This was until I realised that the spring on the pony truck was bent in such a way that the pony truck was lifting the front driving wheels almost clear of the track. Good luck Regards Ray

It seems a very fragile part very thin plastic strips to the screw holding it will order a couple if they can supply the part just in case. The loco it self runs superb nice and smooth
Silver Sidelines
Thanks Chrisd It seems a very fragile part very thin plastic strips to the screwI would not have said very fragile - pretty standard Bachmann design, not a lot of difference to say between the BR 4MT tank or even the WD 2-8-0. So far I have not had one break - fingers crossed. Regards Ray

chris bales
Ivatt 4, Ivatt 2, Crab. Hornby have a different set up. Bachmann spares are rare! As suggested Comet or Brassmasters. Is the Original not repairable? Hi Bob; Yes i will give that a go if Bachmann can not help with the part it may super glue by the look of it. There's a way ahead any way with comet or as you say Brassmaster. so many thanks for all the help again everyone much appreciated Chris
34theletterbetweenB&D
It's a longer than usual truck frame on the Fairburn, and that from the Ivatt 4 is definitely too short. If a RTR alternative should be useful, of models I have to hand, the Bach 9F truck is closest for axle to pivot length, part 850-017. It might need some pivot height adjustment, usefully the polymer used by Bachmann can be thermally reset to good effect. I was presented with a broken specimen of this general design of pony truck some years ago from a small prairie. Repaired it using what I think must be the same polymer from the hard packing piece mouldings that were once found with Bach locos, in conjunction with a very aggressive plastic cement of the 'magic' or 'rocket' variety - at this distance in time I cannot remember exactly which formulation!
