Brian Indge
I have one of the original Bachmann V1/3 locomotives that has worked for many years, however on checking the model on Saturday the centre drive axle seems to have broken. There was a thread on one of the previous incarnations of this Forum where someone had replaced the plastic axles on this model with steel ones and my question is; does anyone know of a professional who can do this for me as I am not able to do this myself. Any help would be appreciated.
micklner
I doubt if you can replace with steel axles as it is a split chassis. The plastic centre muffs are easy to replace, remove bottom cover lift out wheels and the new plastic centres are push fits. Bachmann sell them as spares direct from their website for a couple of quid.
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted July 14, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2014 hmm, last time I inquired they were out of stock of axle insulator sets ...... I think the thread in question involved the addition of brass tubes over the cracked insulators to re-inforce them EDIT: found it on the old forum - G King was the member who modded his loco here personally I find cyano glues the wheels to the cracked insulators for a reasonable length of time, just don't get it on the bearing faces of the wheels
