shortliner
The info is posted on the Athearn web site. Quite a few road specific details. All new chassis as well as the shell. roads are BNSF, CB&Q, Chessie, N&W in(2 schemes), DW&P, & UP(60's scheme). Surprisingly they are not doing SP in the first round. stock_2007
It looks to be their old RTR body, but there had been talk of a Genesis SD40 in the works?
Glorious NSE
Supposedly a totally new body, with more variations possible than the old RPP one.
stock_2007
All the new livery SD40's are on the RTR page but their still a nice model
torikoos
And they seem to include Tsunami sound for 135 GBP at Model Junction, that seems to be a whole lot closer to affordable for many than their genesis line. Koos
Glorious NSE
All the new livery SD40's are on the RTR page but their still a nice model Nonetheless, it's a brand new body. A genesis one would have been tooled in more pieces to allow moulded walkway texture I suspect, and they are supposed to have a higher spec motor - but for that you'd be talking something like a $100 / £70 price difference! And they seem to include Tsunami sound for 135 GBP at Model Junction, that seems to be a whole lot closer to affordable for many than their genesis line Agreed! To put that in perspective, they are the cheapest 6 axle sound loco's in the listings at MJ at present, slightly cheaper than the Bachmann "Heritage" fleet ones (which are less detailed) and in the region of £70 cheaper than most of the rest. Plus not just road, but unit specific detailing (usually a Genesis trick)... That's quite impressive...

Dr Gerbil-Fritters
I wonder why almost all these releases are for the 70s and 80s? I suppose that matches the interests/age of those with the disposable cash for model trains? I'm still waiting for a 2005 vintage SD40M with working ditch lights etc. Or indeed, any other contemporary second generation EMD bumped into switcher duties for the south west.... Suppose I'll just have to keep on modelling 'til then!

I suppose that matches the interests/age of those with the disposable cash for model trains? I'm a little out of touch with the US scene, but the perception last time I looked was that the transitional era was favourite. However, the '60s is now, as you say, nostalgia time for those whose kids have recently flown the nest etc., leaving a few dollars in the bank. I certainly feel that the 1966 SD/GP40 line was the breakthrough that made 3000 hp diesels reliable and popular, even if it was the 1972 Dash Two upgrades that came good with the modular electronics.
