Churchward 7mm 45xx kit

Hi

I bought about a year ago the churchward 45xx chassis kit for o gauge. Finally got round to building it and the pony truck bearings are missing. Modelex appear to have sold this, no longer on web site, I wondered if anyone knows where I can get them from. The instructions say 2mm top hat bearings but not sure if this is the 4mm as the instructions appear to cover both scales. I have the driving wheels from slater but also need pony wheels, I wonder if anyone more knowledgable knows if the pony wheels and bearings can be bought together

Many thanks

Simon

I guess the 2mm bearings would be for the 4mm scale kit.  Slater's driving and pony truck axles are 3/16" dia and Slater's supply the bearings, separately, in packs of 10 IIRC. I'm not familiar with the kit but it might be worth checking if the pony truck frames are designed for 5/32" or 3/16" dia axles as I think Malcolm Mitchell's kits, for example, were 5/32".

Hope this helps. Ray.

The Churchward Models 45xx in both 4mm and 7mm was sold to Phoenix Paints. Given their track record, it may be a good long while before anything reappears.

Might also be worth trying JLTRT, seeing as they produce Malcolm Mitchell's revamp of what was always his own 45xx kit design.

Just as a matter of interest, I assume that you have the driving wheel bearings in the kit. Try them in the pony trucks, if they fit then you need standard 3/16" axle wheels for the trucks, if they are too big then you possibly need 5/32" ones. They are listed on the Slaters website with the suffix MF. You would then obviously need 5/32" bearings to match. Hope this helps.

As it's the 7mm kit you could also think about adding the J.L.T.R.T. super detailing kit to it. It's just about all cast brass parts like springs, front and rear pony's, sidebars cross-heads Etc. At £85 it may not seem cheap but you do get a lot for your money.

To give you an idea of some of the parts these are the pony's
