hi everybody,   after a visit to my local model shop and discussing  if to change from 00 to n-gauge i was advised to stick with oo on analog,  the photos show my layout with new track and some new points on a new cork tile bed.

all the locos are running well . i have reduced the number of points and curves. this as helped.

i hpe the photos come out???

THis  is  not  in  the  correct location  on  the  forum  suggest  a  moderator  may perhaps  move  it   to a more appropriate  section  which  should   get   you more  replies!

Why on  earth  you should be advised   by  a  retailer   Not  to  change  to  N  gauge  and   to  remial on analogue  is  a  rather  strange  response!

You appear  to have   a bit  pf  space  there  why  not   build  a  small  N  gauge  layout  to see  if  you like  it?  If  you dont  it  is  very  easy  to sell unwanted  items  these  days!

Also  re   Analogue control,   having  been  a  digital user  since '97  I would  recommend  you  to  give  it  a  go!   I personally  could  not  consider  using  analogue  these  days  DCC  gives  you  so  much  more easily!   BTW  I am involved  with  N  , 00,  H0e, 0n30 and  0 gauge  layouts  all digital  (  and  not  all personally  owned  by  myself  couldnt  afford  it!!)

hi steve, thanks for your advice.    i was not sure of the correct location for the post, as it is a follow up to my first post as a newbie  i decided to place it here.

i had  a n-gauge lay out in the same position before going to 00.  my wife prefers oo.      the cost of a complete replacement was also a factor.  the retailer did advise to stay with 00.

i still have my Hornby digital controller,   i had a problem with locos failing to operate with it .  so it was back to analogue.       i will give it another look.

regards,  pete. :sungum:

As mentioned   above  I have been digital for many  years,, if you say  you couldnt get it to  work then  either  the  unit  or  the  decoder installation was faulty,   if only certain locos did not  work  and others  did then  its  the  decoder or its installation  that is at  fault.

I have  had  very  few problems with decoders over the  years and  I have used  quite a large number.

Digital  does mean that you need to  read about  it a bit and understand what you are doing  but  it is not  too difficult to understand.

As an example we have a layout  where there is a  gradient   where trains can be  banked by a banking loco uphill ( the banker has a modified Kadee  Coupling) as the summit is reached  the banker's speed is reduced and it is brought to a stand at the top, then it is reversed back down whilst the train continues on its journey,  not easy to achieve  with analogue!

The trackwork looks nice, has a nice flow to it.

I must say some retailers give strange advice sometimes.

Don't be put off DCC.  Find someone who can show you it working and explain it in a manner that doesnt involve a 'university degree'.  I like to learn one thing a day and build up my knowledge.  I ofter forget and have to have a 'refresher'
