byron
The first container train has today left Hamburg en route to Zhengzhou in China (http://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/zug-nach-china-100.html). It will take 17 days for the journey of 10200 km, 10 days faster than by ship. Mike
Julia
Any idea how they handled the break of gauge? J
burgundy
If I understand the report correctly, it suggests that the loads will be transhipped - umgeladen - because of the gauge differences. It also says that the Zhengzhou - Hamburg service has been operating weekly since last year. Best wishes Eric
FelixM
When the Marmaray tunnel ramps in Istanbul finally can be put into service they hopefully will do away with the transhipments underway. I just was in Istanbul and the freight car ferries have already ceased services, the tunnel under the Bosphorus is in operation too but there are still dead ends deep in the earth.
