mjcbasingstoke
I not sure whether my DoG TTS loco has a problem or not. When in reverse there is no chuff (fine going forward). The video on the Hornby web site only shows it going forward. Anyone with a DoG TTS got it to chuff in reverse? Can't see any where in the manual which relates to sounds in reverse. Have reset the decoder to Factory setting but it's still the same. Any advice would be appreciated. Probably have to contact Hornby tomorrow when they are open. Mike70
I've got an A4 Sparrowhawk with sound, which I run using the Hornby E-Link. Once I had problems with the sound and I believe it was caused by the E-Link being connected to the wrong comms port. After connecting the E-Link through the correct port, everything worked fine. Just out of interest, does the DoG TTS have the tender pick ups?
mjcbasingstoke
I don't believe the DoG has tender pickups. I am using a Gaugemaster Prodigy Advance as my controller. Things have moved on since my post in that I can get it to chuff in reverse but only on address 03. If for instance I program it to address 71 then I can turn the sound on(F1) but the loco does not respond. I think there may be a decoder problem. Thanks for the reply
The Black Hat
Any news on this as the first thing I did was preprogramme my Duke to 7100 and ended up with no Chuff going backwards too.
RMweb Gold tetsudofan Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 Programmed mine to 7100 and got chuff going backward and forward....and also reduced the main sound settings as I thought it a bit noisy on the chuff....but left the whistles as set by Hornby. Probramming done by Roco Z21. Keith
The Black Hat
Im running on a new ECoS although pretty sure Ive done it right. Tried programming back to 0003 and got no response from the engine! Back to 7100 and it responds as before. Sounds are okay compared with usual offerings in the DCC Sound world, but wonder if a change of speaker would make them sound better. All interesting as I think this TTS might open up a new area for Hornby if they are getting it right. I dont expect them to straight away as theres bound to be issues, but they are trying and Im pleased to support them on this going forward!
RMweb Gold tetsudofan Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 I posted my views on the TTS sound on the "DoG Cancelled " thread .....but don't know how to provide a link to that posting...... Keith

The Black Hat
Have tried reprogramming mine from 7100 back to 3 and back to 7100. All the same result. No chuff backwards. Think I might have to take it back, but am sure they have none left!
charliepetty
The speed steps on the controller/loco have to be set to 128 Hornby told me this AM.
The Black Hat
Thats got it sorted now. Running fine in both directions. Just needs running in now - although think the speaker could do with being changed.

sharpshooter
Hi....can someone tell me the "fix" for the original problem that was posted as I also have one that does not "chuff" in reverse. Cheers Rich

Just out of interest, does the DoG TTS have the tender pick ups? http://www.Hornby.com/servicesheets/index/download/id/318/ The service sheet is here, but doesn't make it clear if there are pick-ups... I know the previous sound locos with speakers in the tender did, I have a few examples myself. The plastic drawbar between loco and tender is usually an indication of no tender pick-ups - Hornby's 'Tornado' is an example of such. With the chip and speaker in the tender you might have expected pick-ups - perhaps another cost cutting exercise....
pauliebanger
Hornby DoG TTS has pick ups on the rear 4 wheels of the tender. Paul
The Black Hat
Hi....can someone tell me the "fix" for the original problem that was posted as I also have one that does not "chuff" in reverse. sharpshooter
Thanks for that.. Strangely enough I went to check this last night, only to find that the decoder had reprogrammed itself to 38, but the chuff did now work OK in reverse.....I have now changed it back to 03 and all seems fine. I'm just a bit worried how it managed to reprogram itself. Cheers Rich
frontera
Hi. Iam a new member. Last Saturday I purchased a Duke with the TTS sound. Mine would not chuff in reverse. I have changed the speed steps to 128, and bingo it chuffs in reverse. Needs running in though. Iam inpressed in as much as the cost, compared to my Bachmann 9F with sound its cheap. Cheers for the info provided. Chris

sharpshooter
I've got a tts p2 on order, does anyone run their dog on a sprog dcc controller with Jmri? I messed about with my settings using Decoder Pro and a Sprog 2. No decoder definition seems to be available yet, so I had to use the single CV editing function to mess about with a few things. Apparently some models have come out of the factory with some CV settings that are incorrect. From memory, something to do with CV's 250/251/252, but I can't remember what the problem was or the exact values that Hornby specify for these. Can check later when I am at home. AshleyH
I've got a tts p2 on order, does anyone run their dog on a sprog dcc controller with Jmri? We run our dog on Pedigree Chum, no problems so far with forward or reverse, but she barks rather than chuffs.
Coldgunner
Might have to keep my eye on the Yahoo JMRI group.
RAF96
Speaker is a round one that according to Hornby needs to be in its plastic enclosure to provide best sound characteristics. Chip is non-user programmable unfortunately, so what you get is what you are stuck with, although you can adjust overall volume and individual spot sound volumes as well as the loco speed regime. The manual says the accel/decal CVs must be set no less than 15 or the sound and motor response will suffer.
mark walker
If you have a Hornby duke of Gloucester with sound TTS and it's not puffing in reverse then set your DCC controller to 128. This should work.
Coldgunner
Note for JMRI users, try the Raw CV decoder file, you can't program with it, but it gets you running. Watch the JMRI yahoo group for a file soon.
