AdamD98
Hi all, Apologies for posting here but I couldn't think of a more relevant place. I am modelling BR railfreight metals trains and I'm looking for wagons that are of similar type to those used as spacer wagons on the large girder trains for example. Can anyone help at all? Many thanks for any advice in advance.
Mark Saunders
The main wagons for under runners was the former SAA as produced by Hornby, then OBA's without bodies and VDA's without bodies. The former trestles, later BOA became runners when the cradles were removed! Mark Saunders

cheesysmith
Just look on Paul Bartlett's wagon photos for the runners. There was a lot of different wagons used, either converted or not. There was even some that we're unfitted but had through pipes, vac braked and air piped, dual braked. About the only common thing they had was they were either low height wagons or had their body work cut flat to the chassis. Cambrian are supposed to be releasing shortly the vac braked timber wagon, which with the ends cut had laid flat, was used as under runners.
AdamD98
Thanks for that, it's been very helpful. Also, I wasted half a day looking at some excellent photo's ... is that a good or bad thing? No in all seriousness, thank you I did manage to find what I was looking for and I am now on the hunt for some donor wagons to scratch/bash into said subject!
