Best way to wire this for DCC

Recommended Posts

As I am new to DCC and I have not had a model railway for many years, please could someone assist advise me of the best way to wire up this MPD layout for DCC so that the whole layout is live all the time and the best place to put the isolation joints and feeds etc. The points are electrofog too (will they need any attention for DCC as they have a little additional wire underneath)

Would I need a Seep PM1 point motor under each point to reverse the polarity?

I will be using a gaugemaster controller with a separate transformer for the points, to be installed at a later date.

Thanks in advance

You should fit insulated rail joiners on both "frog rails" of each turnout.

Then fit droppers to each running rail and connect those droppers the relevant conductor on the two wire track power bus.

Finally modify the points (presumably they're Peco Electrofrog) as per the instructions that come with the point so that the frog polarity is switched according to the lie of the points. You can use SEEP PM1 motors or relays to set the frog's polarity correctly.

Robert should then be your mother's brother.

Do you really neeed point motors for such a small layout? Just use simple slide switches as levers connected to the points by wire in tube or by model aircraft rodding. The switch contacts will switch the frogs. as the turntable has only the two outlets It can just have a dpdt switch to change polarity when it turns 180 degrees. Personally I would ditch the curved point at the bottom and extend both roads to the turntable, that will increase stabling space quite a bit.

Hi,im in the process of building a DCC layout,i have 16 freight lines leading to 4 mainlines.Ive use Peco Electrofrog, but have followed the ways of Allen Gartner which make the points DCC friendly. My mainline points motors are ZTC,which have a decoder fitted so can be operated with your controller they are fitted in the same way as Peco point motors. The freight lines are operated with Peco above board point motors My Bus bars are copper tape all around my layout 1 for each side of the rail so you get Neg Pos sides,i have added droppers to every break in the tracks, this will give electrical continuity.Im no good with electrics, but only have had 2 problems both my fault wiring the rails to the wrong sides of the bus bar. This is my 1st true layout,im very pround the way its coming along.Im 63 but i never stop learning.I will try to add some photos. But not good with a computer.By the way the Gaugemaster prodigy 2 is the easiest controller to use along the NCE
