New Camera - budget ?200

As it says above, I'm on the lookout for a new camera as my current Fuji S1000 is slowly beginning to die. My budget is up to the £200 mark and I normally use the camera for relatively closeup model railway pics and then out and about photting everything else - mostly for reference purposes.

I'm very much a brand loyalty person and currently looking at Fuji S8200, S9200 and S9400W. I'm also comfortable with the bridge camera format and would like to stay with that unless anyone can give me good reasons not to.

I've been looking at various review sites but there's only so many megapixels/shutter response/etc/etc that you can look at before becoming confused. If anyone has any personal recommendations, then that would possibly narrow down the search

All suggestions gratefully received.

EDIT: Going back to brand loyalty, I used to use Pentax SLR's - is the Pentax X5 any good?

EDIT2: I'm looking at AA battery powered as I have a holiday plan that may not involve too much mains electricity for chargers

Cheers,

Mick

The Fuji S9200 certainly fits your budget and has a reasonable spec.  I've not used this specific model but have been very pleased with the three Fuji digital cameras that I've used.

No connection with Wex other than as a satisfied customer.

And there's a £30 cashback on some Fuji cameras until Jan 2015...........

Can't help on the cameras, but for AA backups, I've found lithium AAs are both light in weight, surprisingly long-lasting in terms of how much electricity you get for the money (although slightly more expensive then others), and also have a very long shelf life and good low temperature abilities. Energizer are easily found in the HIgh Street (Boots I think).

Have you considered a used DSLR? The older models can now be very reasonably priced.

Edit - following suggestion of a camera from WEX below, here is an entry level Nikon DSLR within budget.

And there are several DSLRs in the Pentax range that use AA batteries including my current one the K200d

I bought a Sony DX50 not too long ago

20M pixels 30x optical zoom

1920x1080p video

Pretty good quality and pocket size to boot!

Approx £200 from John Lewis inc 8M SD card.

EDIT not AA's but there must be a way round that problem!

A mate just sent me a "heads-up" on this - and it's a Fuji and it takes AA's! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351126112753?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D351126112753%26_rdc%3D1

Not sure that you can go wrong at that price!

A good price for sure.

I was going to buy a Fuji bridge camera @ around £200 before I settled on the HX50 but I saw a couple of not exactly complimentary reviews of the one I was thinking of.

When I spotted the HX50 with a similar spec and better reviews and it's a compact to boot, I went for the Sony.

I've bought a Fujifilm S9400W. £199 and then a cashback of £30 to make it a good deal at £169. With the saving, I've treated myself to a new camera case and larger memory card and still got some change from my budget.

It has wifi so I can transfer photos directly to phone or pc/tablet without messing around with cables or removing the memory card.

Just need to get out and use it.........

Cheers,

Mick
