RMweb Gold mabel Posted October 30, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2014 Can anyone help with the above. Im building some engineers wagons (opens, dog & catfish) for a layout set around 1960. What were the green triangles for (or any other coloured insignia) and when were they introduced? Cant access flickr so I cant trawl there... Thanks Tony
Boris
When the wagons are removed from the stock box and placed on the layout they remind the shunter which way up the wagons go.
hmrspaul
I do hope you get an answer to this, as us BR wagonners haven't managed to get to the bottom of when these were introduced - there were many different such markings (Hornby have a Scottish one on one of their ballast hopper) - nor the areas. There were two green triangles, one conventional http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brmedfitsteel/e3dc56920 and one at the end http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brmedfitsteel/e2d61ba81 - I think this was for the SR. APOLLO
Thread here about it - Allocation code is a probability. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/68256-yellow-triangle-on-black-wagon/ Brit15
RMweb Gold mabel Posted November 1, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 1, 2014 Thanks for your replies chaps. Thanks for the link Brit15. Already read that thread, and many others via google (Mr Bartlett appears in most of them). Im up at Leeman Rd in York on Tuesday. I will see if any old hands remember them, failing that it may be worth a walk over the road to NRM to see if any documentation exists on the subject. Will report back if I find anything. The Bigbee Line
I thought it was an easy way to recognise an Engineers wagon from a Revenue wagon. Plus the "D" prefix to the number.
