QuoitsPlayer
Hello everyone I'm building a twenty arch 7-9ft viaduct long viaduct, with the town scene below. The arches are a scale 5-6 storeys high so apart from several at one end are too high to use for business premises underneath. So does anyone have pictures of what's underneath viaduct arches please? Or ideas of what I can place underneath the arches please? So far I've made one 'bomb site' car park as the layout is set in the mid 60's. Many thanks Matt
Fat Controller
It wasn't unusual to find tall arches which had a single-storey building occupying the bottom of the arch. Sometimes the area between the top of the building and the top of the arch would be planked in, but in other cases it would be left open.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 15, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 15, 2014 Google Earth & Streetview is good for this. Find the station in Redruth, Newquay or Truro and you will see some nearby viaducts with roads underneath. Stu

tamperman36
How about a timber yard or builders yard, you could use several arches for them or you could put some wooden garages between the pillars
'CHARD
Follow the viaduct over the rooftops south from Birmingham Moor Street through Digbeth. All manner of human existence resides under here.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted November 15, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 15, 2014 Chelmsford also has arches that are quite high and infilled up to three floors. 51.44'07.24" N 0.27'56.61" E facing due north.

Some of which had a rude awakening in recent times, when some scrap wagons (fortunately empty) derailed, and knocked a portion of parapet on to a car parked below. QuoitsPlayer
IF you do fill in any of the shorter arches, then this is a pretty atmospheric shot. https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3824/9494387130_58949a0d24_z.jpg Many thanks for the help everyone, I particularly like the link above. I've got plenty of ideas now for what to put below the arches and several of the items mentioned in this thread will be appearing. Matt
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted November 17, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2014 Some of which had a rude awakening in recent times, when some scrap wagons (fortunately empty) derailed, and knocked a portion of parapet on to a car parked below. When I saw 'rude' the start of that comment I thought you were referring to a certain club at Bordesley. Incidentally former Sky presenter and footballer Andy Gray used to be involved in a night club under the arches at the north end of Snow Hill. Regarding the ones in Digbeth, I went to one of the scrap yards when I had bent my car bonnet. No, I haven't got one he said but tell me the model and colour and I'll get you one for the day after tomorrow. No doubt he would have nicked it back from me when the original owner came looking for a replacement.
