wollastonblue
I have been asked a question and wondered if anyone could help with it. When were the Class 150 DMUs introduced onto the Stourbridge Line? I thought it to be around 1990, but it maybe earlier. Thanks in advance for any answers. SM42
I recall them appearing earlier than 1990 at Kidderminster. In fact I think they were fairly new when they did appear. A quick look in Rails Thorugh the Hills by J Boynton records the 150s appearing in 1986 between Worcester and Birmingham. (page 78) As an aside ; apparently class 155s were around in 1987 on Birmingham - Cardiff via Stourbridge (same source) and I have some distant memories of the novelty of being able to catch a train direct to Cardiff from Kidderminster. Later in the early 90s there was the Stourbridge - Paddington service too (class 166) which I recall signalling through Hartlebury so must have been around 1994. Beatty 139
From memory it will have been 1986/7 I used to live in Blakedown but moved to south birmingham in 1983 a few years after moving I did travel back on that line with my camera, to record the 1st generation DMU's and ended up travelling back on a then very new 150 not to be very impressed by the fact you didn't get a view from the cab, and secondly that at almost every station the guard had issues with the door safety circuits and had to push them closed before the set would move.
