RMweb Premium The White Rabbit Posted November 28, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 28, 2014 Received today, this is a new edition of Iain Rice's guide. I have an older edition (and find it very useful) and this looks to be an expanded and substantially expanded edition. I recognise some of the drawings from my edition but there's also some new pictures in this edition, some in colour, which is useful. There's seven chapters: some preliminaries, tools & techniques, plastic modelling materials, kit construction and refinement, pragmatic scratch-building, model civil engineering and guilding the lily. There's 120 pages, with the text comprehensively illustrated. I've not had a thorough look at it but on preliminary inspection, it looks good. Some modellers may balk at the £24.95 price for a paperback title, however, quality rarely comes cheap and I know the price of printing has risen sharply in recent years. Whether you plan to potter about a bit with Wills' Scenic Series kits or go in for scratchbuilding, I'd suggest you're likely to find this book of use. brossard
Nice. I have the old edition and it is very useful. Anything by Rice is worth a read I reckon. Perhaps we will see revised editions of his loco building books as well. John
chris bales
{ Anything by Rice is worth a read } I would second that have his layout design books Old school now but better for it Also have a couple of his wagon building DVDs well worth having too
Arthur
Yes, I bought a copy at Warley though I did wonder initially whether it was just a re-print, it isn't. I've put it by to read over Christmas but a quick look suggested that it's typical 'Rice' and I'll enjoy it for that if nothing else.
RSLR
I did think about buying what will now be the previous edition of this book many many years ago, but never did for some unknown reason. Today I purchased this new book from Peco along with their latest catalogue... some christmas reading I think.I did meet Iain years ago at Carn Brea where he attended with his splendid China Clay layout - I remember we spent a while talking about it. Very interesting and knowledgeable chap. I should think his book will be a good read, but I look forward to having a look at this book as I'm a big 'Wills Materials' fan anyway.I'll probably post again when I've read it.
