For the walling ive used the plaster cast ones from ebay that come in small sections

Then i just cut them up with a junior hacksaw if i need to shape them to follow he contours of the land.

If theres any horrible gaps between them i just hide it with foliage/bushes

Still got to do that on the latest scenic part of the model

Cheers

Is the white sighting board in the right spot?  It doesn't appear to be far enough to the left to me- from either the signalmans, or the drivers' prospective.  I know it might be in the "right spot" by counting bricks, but something doesn't quite look right about it.

(the idea though, is fabulous...I'm just not sure about execution)

Done a small bit today...

Scratch built the frame and board for the summit sign and had sankey scenics do the sign.

Cracking job they have done as well

Bought a new loco for the layout last week...

Hornbys new duchess "city of bradford"

Thought id buy this as they were sometimes seen on a wcml diversion over the s&c.

Plus the loco has a bit of a family connection to it.

Sorry again for the iphone photo quality, really must stop being lazy and use a proper camera!

They look very reminiscent of the scrubby little birches that struggle against the wind in the prototype location. I'm really liking watching as your layout progresses, but thought I should throw in a post as well, just to prove I'm paying proper attention!

Kind regards, Neil

Next part to work on the layout will be around the signal box and this corner, which has become a bit of a workbench mess!

Hi Ben.

You are right not to overdo the trees - they are nicely made, by the way! Maybe a couple of squatter, bushier specimens could go in between some of the taller ones?

In the absence of any "action" with KL2, like Neil, it's enjoyable to see what you are up to!

Jeff

Edit: Btw, your "workbench mess" is pretty tidy compared to the state I usually end up in!

Hiya jeff

Thanks for that, your right some smaller bushes dotted about should look okay.

I know its a long way off but looking forward to pics of KL2 when you get building.

Good thing about a settle & carlisle layout is that the place hasnt changed that much from the 1960s to the present day to be able to run different era stock.

Its not as if theres now a tescos at ais gill summit!

A couple of years ago I was asked about the running period for KL. I replied, very specifically, 1960 - 1968 - to cover transition and allow a lot of different traffic.....

It was then pointed out to me that I could EASILY cover 1950 - late 70s, simply by changing the locos and the cars in the car park since, as you said above, not much changes in the S&C area.
