Ais Gill summit layout

Done a bit more this afternoon up in the loft

Started building up the scenery in the next corner.

At the real location the line curves the other way after the signal box.

Havent got the space for that in the loft.even though the loft measures 13'x12'.

So this corner is just going to be completely freelance and made up of just grass, stone walling & sheep!

Its Fairly tolerable jeff,as its insulated and has a carpet on the floor.

Although i read in the press this week that this winter is going to be brutal, but they say that evey year!

Then i'll just go up there in me thermals if it is!

The rough gravel area next to the bridge... Anyone know why this is actually there? Was it put there when the tarmac was laid on the road up there?

It's the former alignment of the road before it was dog-legged over the bridge when the line was built. Coming north the road crosses the bridge over the beck, then swings off it's original alignment to turn right over the railway bridge. It doesn't regain its former alignment until just before the farm about 300 yds further north.

Cracking layout !

The ballast also needs weathering on the entire layout,i'll have to invest in an airbrush & have a practice.

As always plenty to do and think about!

The walls are from a model shop seller via ebay.

Can't remember the sellers name at the moment, dont even know who makes them.

They come with small square sections on the ends of them to link with another piece but i cut them off with a junior hacksaw as i think the "join" isnt very realistic.

Yes,then i cut any sections up with the hacksaw to follow the contours of the land.

As recommended by Jeff, (Physicsman) I have popped in again for another look and it really is coming on well, Some excellent photography of some stunning scenery, well done, yet another thread to keep watching when I'm in the S & C Section.

Cheers andy & jeff.

The natural morning sunlight coming through the velux windows totally makes all the difference.

Looks so much better than the spotlights that are up there.

Just a shame theres only windows in the loft on one side of the roof,so by about mid day the sun has moved around the front of the house.

Cheers

Just had a look from where i get them from..
Ceg.model.railway in cheshire is the seller of them.
Not sure if they make them or get them from elsewhere?

Thanks, Ben. Just put in an order for a couple of the unpainted sets. The painted ones look too brown for Derbyshire limestone.

Ben, as Andy, Shaun, John, Jonathan, Jeff and many others have said, the layout is coming along well, and as far as I'm concerned as the son of a former LMS loco driver (on the old G&SWR lines from the forties through to the end of steam), you could do no wrong in publishing those beautiful images that include the Duchess. I was lucky enough to get several footplate rides on those beasts during the fifties and the impression of sheer power is etched on my memory! (Especially on one particular run up the Nith Valley line with a Carlisle to Glasgow parcels express with only six vans/coaches attached, my dad had to keep holding it back!). Thanks to Jeff's plug, I now have another thread to follow - I will have to cut some out as I'm running out of time each day, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on, well done to you Ben, and thanks for sharing it. I apologise for a rash of ratings as I try to look back over it!

Kind regards,

Jock.

Thanks lads,much appreciated.

Jock...sounds like you had a cracking childhood!

Cheers

Ben

Ben,

I have actually had 68 mainly superb years, but yes, the memories from the fifties when dad was a driver, are probably the best. One day I'll have to get round to posting some of the experiences from that time,

Kind regards,

Jock.
